Reflections (Day 1)
We are learning to…create and identify reflections.
Wednesday, April 19, 2023
Vocabulary A reflection flips an object over a line.
This line is known as a line of reflection.
To remind myself about reflection I should think of an object reflected in a mirror (everything in the reflected image is backwards).
Each point on the original figure and reflected figure are the same distance from the line of reflection.
The resulting image from the reflection will be congruent to the original image.
Use your ruler to create a reflection…

“Try using your ruler to do a reflection independently!”
With your team list as many reasons as possible why the image below is not an example of a reflection.

Share your reasoning with the class.
3 Rules of Reflections:
The original object and reflected object must be congruent (the exact same shape and size).
A point and a reflected point must be the same distance from the line of reflection.
If a point and a reflected point are connected with a straight line, then that line will form a right angle (90°) with the line of reflection.
For Example:
Right Angle
Not a Right Angle
Example of a Reflection: Not an Example of a Reflection:
Team Reflection and Practice
1. With your team: discuss and record the similarities and differences between a rotation and a reflection.
2. Then complete the 2 reflections.
3. When you are done raise your hand to have your teacher come and check your work.
