Realism

• A media text or representation that seems credible to an audience, in terms of events,

people, emotions or experiences as opposed to a text that is seen to be merely fantasy

Reflective View of Representations

• Understands media representations as a reflection of lived reality. It does reflect reality, but by mediation of

media language/narrative to gain perspective.

Constructionist View of Representation

• An understanding that our knowledge of the world is constructed by media representations.

• Constructing your view of the media…through representations portrayed.

The Rugby World Cup

TASK – This task will be constructing your view of The England Rugby Union Team through representations in the media

• Go on the Internet and search for as much coverage of The Rugby World

Cup as possible.

• Note down any ‘descriptive words’ the media uses to describe The English Rugby Team (brave, impressive etc).

• How does the media create a constructionist representation of the

English Rugby Union Team?
