The ability to store renewable energy effectively is one of the greatest barriers to full adoption of renewables.

Energy storage fundamentally improves the way we generate, delivery and consume electricity.

Good energy storage improves grid reliability and allows energy to be supplied during emergencies, such as storms or equipment failure.

China Electric Power Research Institute & Prudent Energy - provided 500 kW.1 MWh vanadium redoc flow battery to China’s Wind Power Research and Testing Centre.

• Battery uses external tanks and pumps to store the electrolyte pumped through cell stack

• Used to integrate centre’s 78 MW of wind & 640 kW of solar power

• Stores excess energy during low demand, discharges when demand increases

• Operates at room temperature

RES won contract from Western Power Distribution (WPD) to build first energy storage system

• £1m project• Initiative to investigate commercial feasibility of battery

energy storage• RES to build a 300kVA/640Wh project • Will demonstrate 9 different applications of energy

storage on the grid• RES to provide ongoing support during battery’s

operation using RESolve their energy control system• Run in conjunction with National Solar Centre
