Deuteronomy 1:1-8

Jewish name for Deuteronomy is“devarim”

“words” derived from the opening expression

“These are the words Moses spoke to Israel”

Deuteronomy got its English name from the unfortunate

mistranslation of a phrase in 17:18

“write for himself on a scroll a copy of the law”

Comes from the Greek

“deuteros” meaning secondand

“nomos” meaning law

Deuteronomy• A new generation• A new possession• A new experience• A new revelation of God as the God of

love
