Welcome to the 30th Annual IKEA Renton River Days with activities in Liberty Park on July 24-26. Experience this year’s festival that showcases Renton’s passion for music, art, food, active lifestyle, community organizations and our citizens. Twenty planning committees and 250 volunteers have been working diligently to ensure there will be something for everyone at the festival this year. With different events and activities for all generations, the festival brings the community together for a mid-summer showcase of fun and entertainment. As the Official Guide for IKEA Renton River Days, this special section of the Renton Reporter contains all the locations, times, and spotlight features to help you plan for your favorite events.
The Wenatchee Youth Circus will perform three shows at Cedar River Park (July 24 at 1:30 p.m. and 6:00 p.m., and July 25 at 1:30 p.m.). See page 12 for a complete listing of FREE Weekend Fun for Kids. Outdoor entertainment is non-stop with nearly 40 performing groups on two stages in Liberty Park. See page 22 for the entire line-up of stage entertainment.
I invite the public to support the Renton Salvation Army Rotary Food Bank Food Drive during Renton River Days. Bring non-perishable canned food items to the Salvation Army Renton Rotary Food Bank Booth located in the arts and crafts vendor
area at Liberty Park. With your donation, you can participate in the interactive duck art piece named “SalvArte.” “SalvArte” will take on a life of its own - the more donated, the more elaborate
the art piece will be. Free shuttle service will link the main festival
grounds of Liberty Park (at Bronson Way N. near the tennis courts) to available parking at Renton Memorial Stadium. Look for the “River Days Shuttle Stop” signs. This free service will run continuously on Friday, July 24, from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.; Saturday, July 25, from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.; and Sunday, July 26 from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
I hope you will take a moment to view page 4 and recognize the event sponsors and contributors who have made our 2015 festival possible. When you visit these businesses in the community, take a
moment to thank them for their civic involvement and corporate partnership. Since 1986, IKEA Renton River Days remains free of admission charge and nearly all activities are provided at no expense to children and families.
Please join me in experiencing Renton’s finest celebration as we proudly showcase what continues to make Renton a special place to live, learn, work, play, and raise families.

Since 1991, the festival’s volunteer Board of Directors has selected an individual or team to receive the Outstanding Service Award (OSA). This year, the Board selected Jerry Kavesh, not only recognizing his 30-years of continuous volunteer service on the Board of Directors, but also for the multitude of other ways he has loyally supported Renton’s family festival.
Jerry’s involvement and support to River Days dates back to the beginning when River Days was officially formed in 1986. Through all 30 years, Jerry has remained a strong advocate for keeping the festival admission free, featuring a wide range of quality free programming for kids, and the importance of developing partnerships which help sustain Renton’s community family festival. Among many specific areas where Jerry has focused his time and talents, have been festival budgeting, sponsorship, and website development. Jerry also served as Festival Chairman from 2009-2012. When asked about his dedication to River Days, he said, “Renton is a great community and to me, the ideal of Renton River Days goes to the core of what the Renton Community is all about. Being able to interact with the hundreds of volunteers and constituencies served has been an incredibly
rewarding and satisfying experience which I hope many others will be able to experience now and in the future.” Jerry and his family owned and operated the iconic Renton Western Wear for over 60 years. On behalf of the family of Renton River Days, we say “Thank you Jerry!” Jerry Kavesh will be honored during the festival’s “Celebrating 30 Specquackular Years” event on July 15.
The festival’s Outstanding Service Award recognizes exemplary pride and dedication towards the continued success of Renton’s community festival, and gratefully acknowledges the commitment and efforts of a volunteer or organized entity who help ensure the legacy of Renton’s festival traditions and community spirit. Past recipients have primarily included well-deserving individuals, but also teams such as the City of Renton Parks and Recreation
Departments, and employees of First Savings Bank Northwest who volunteer in large numbers to help
organize, manage, and stage the parade.
Outstanding Service Award recipients include (1991-2015): Doug Kyes, Char Baker, Don Persson, Toni Nelson, Sylva Coppock, Pat Newberry, Joyce Williams, Sam Chastain, City of Renton Park Maintenance & Recreation Divisions, Sandy Chastain, Tim Searing, Jeff Lukins, Chuck Tiernan, Jerry Rerecich, Pat O’Dell, Mark Kotlan, Suzanne Thompson, First Savings Bank Northwest Parade Volunteers, Helenanne Botham, Kiwanis/Lions/Rotary Service Clubs, Norm and Carol Abrahamson, Rene Hart, Kent Phillips (STAR 101.5 FM), Bonnie Rerecich and Jerry Kavesh.

Volunteer at River DaysIKEA Renton River Days is looking for volunteers during
festival weekend to help with various children’s activities, art-related events, to help keep the park clean and litter-free, and to help with the parade.
If you’d like to volunteer, please email Sharon Murphy, Assistant Volunteer Coordinator at rrdvolunteer@comcast.net. Most tasks are outdoors and require physical ability. You can also visit www.rentonriverdays.org for festival volunteer information and to download a festival volunteer application. While most of the opportunities are intended for those 16 years and older, there may be positions available for those under 16.
IKEA Renton River Days is jam-packed with events, entertainment, recreation, arts and food for all to enjoy. Volunteering for the festival is one of the most fun and rewarding ways to get involved. Come be a part of the team!
Volunteers from the Volkssport Interlaken Trailblazers mark the Fun Walk routes.

Why Pre-Plan?Peace of MindMany who have undergone the emotional strain of arranging a funeral within hours of losing a loved one have made the choice to pre-plan their own funeral. Doing so lifts the burden from their loved ones by relieving decision-making pressure at a time of grief and emotional stress.Personal ChoiceFuneral arrangements are a deeply personal choice. Pre-planning provides you with the time needed to make practical, detailed decisions that reflect your standards, lifestyle, taste and budget. And we assure you and your family that the choices you make will be carried out as planned.Lower CostsWhen you finalize your plan, we can advise you of the total cost. You do not have to set aside funds for your plan, but doing so protects you against escalating funeral costs. By locking in today’s funeral costs and ensuring that the necessary funds are set aside, you help relieve yourself of unnecessary future worry and your survivors of an unexpected expense.
