MaterialsAndMethods

ThisresearchwasconductedinKulonProgoRegency, namely Girimulyo and Samigaluh Sub-Districts,whichweredividedinto3categories.Theselection of research sites is based on thepopulation, namelyhigh(T),medium(S)andlow(R) populations. Selected locations are inJatimulyo Village (T), Purwosari Village (S) andGiripurwo Village (R) in Girimulyo District,Banjarsari Village (T), Gerbosari (S), andPurwoharjo (R) Village in Samigaluh District.Material used in this study were farmers asrespondentsandtheirgoatsasresearchmaterial, namely Doe PE goats aged 1.5 years to 3 years(poel2to3pairs)(Tomazsweskaetal.,1993).Themethod used in this study is a survey throughinterviewsusingquestionnaires.

Reproductive variables observed includedlittersize, postpartumestrus, postpartummating, serviceperconceptionandlambinginterval.Thenumber of litter size, postpartum estrus, postpartummatingandserviceperconceptionareobtainedbasedoninterviewswithfarmers, whilethe lambing interval is obtained based oncalculationsusingthefollowingformula:

LitterSizeLitter size is the number of lambs born at

lambing. Litter sizes are crucial for the rate ofincrease of goat populations. High litter size willaffectpopulationincrease(Sudewoetal.,2012).TheaverageresearchresultsofthelittersizecanbeseeninTable1.Table1.LittersizeofPEgoatsaged1.5to3years

Based on the table, it can be seen that thenumber of litter size for PE goats in Kulon ProgoRegencyisnotsigniicantlydifferentbetweentheageofPoel2andPoel3.Thenumberoflittersizerangesfrom1.65to1.72tail.Theigureobtainedinthestudyis higher when compared to Davendra and Burns(1994)whichstatesthatthelittersizeforPEgoatsis1.5tailsperlambing.Thisisinluencedbytheparityfactorofthegoat,wheretheDoePEinKulonProgoisinparity2and3.Sudewoetal.,(2012),statesthatthelittersizetendstoincreasefromtheirsttothesixthparity,withapeakinthelittersizethesixthis1.96±0.32. Litter size starts to decrease at the seventhparity.

Thenumberof litter sizeof goat agepoel 3 ishigherthanofpoel2.KostamanandSutama(2005)state that the litter size of a doe is determined bythreefactors, thenumberofeggsproducedperlustand ovulation, fertilization and conditions duringpregnancy and embryo death. These three factorsdependontheageofthedoe, bodyweight, buckformating, ambient temperature and genetic of theparent.Ahighlittersizewillbefollowedbyahighrateofdeathoflambandalsobyadecreaseinthelambingweightofthelamb.Susilowati(2007)explainedthatdoePEisaproliic(fertile)goatandproduces1to3lambperlambingandbodyweightbetween35to45kgindoes,whereasinbucksrangingfrom40to60kgdepending on quality seeds and maintenancemanagement.
