What are the STEPS (or TIERS)?

In a RtI system, the STEPS to helping all students succeed are called TIERS.Most school districts, including MPS, use a 3-STEP or 3-TIER system.

Where Does Special Education Fit in?

The answer is no, you can make an evaluation request at any time.

Don’t be afraid to ask questions if you don’t understand something that the school is doing.

Be willing to work as a partner with the school.

Insist on being informed.

SUMMARY RtI is a process that helps ALL students learn. RtI provides steps of support for students who

are struggling or are in need of more challenges.

RtI is successful when parents and school staff work together. RtI cannot stop a parent from receiving a special education referral for their child.
