This is not a JAZ drive!!!!!

The customer raises Iomega and JAZ technology:

REV PRO is a clean room environment in both Disk and Drive and during the insertion process.

JAZ technology used HDD components, however treated the media and drive as OPEN environments.

Inside REV PRO™ Technology

Utilizes standard 2.5” notebook HDD components/technology

Removable disks contain only the hard disk platter and motor

14

REV PRO Additional Key Features

Secure Erase and Shredding utilitiesEliminate previously recorded data and repurpose the media, a guarantee that the previously recorded content has been eliminated.

Master/User PasswordContent on the media can be protected in the field or in the workflow, but also retrieved if the password is lost or forgotten.

Disk diagnosticsThis provides users with the ability to determine "health" before deployment by tracking multiple drive and disk operations.

File based workflowDesigned for Post Production facilities transition to file based workflow. Always File based

15

REV PRO is not just for the Camera!

Project ManagementUse REV PRO to organize content into projectsInclude all digital assets (video, audio, log files, notes, project files, tracksheets) on one piece of media.

Content Exchange & DistributionREV PRO media is a low cost consumable that does not have to have an asset tag!

Near Line ArchivalUse REV PRO to keep digital assets available for reuse.

16

Optical Solutions

Does not support True non-linear access to your data!

Data is written “flat” like tape. Has the same strategy as tape.

As a result will not support multiple streams and higher bit rates.

XDCAM Media write over is roughly 10,000 cycles, REV PRO…..1,000,000 cycles!

17

XDCAM (PD) Professional Disk

Media is advertised as supporting 72/144 Mbps. This is only in support of the media NOT THE CAMERA or in the workflow for Writes. For writes in 23GB it is limited to 36Mbps.

Performance limitation is due to a proprietary implementation of ECC within the disk to support the camera.

Other points with XDCAM optical media cartridgeIt is a powered media inside the camera, at all times to ensure that the media is at the correct temperature for recording.

They are sacraficing media size and capacity to include ECC technology and consequently bit rate.

18

Cross Platform Compatibility

XDCAM will not be able to take advantage of future mass adoption of the Blue ray technology across desktops and notebooks.

Why?The XDCAM PD version of Blue Ray technology is proprietary and specialized.

What is next for XDCAM PD media?

Two layer technology offering 46GB in capacity with performance support of 50Mbps.

19

Flash Media

Compact Flash and Panasonic P2 media

Advantages

>High Performance

>High Durability

Disadvantages

>High Cost

>Unprotected file system

>Need additional devices and steps in the work flow, as the media is considered an Asset in the workflow.

20

What is JFS ( Journaled File System)?

A Journaled file system will maintain the integrity of the file system in the event of an unexpected failure of the file system. The File system can be effected by unexpected power down or environmental effects during a disk write/read process.

A Journaled file system can recover by the use of directory metadata and the use of a serial log containing bit maps.

Flash based media is FAT32….Why should your customers care? FAT32 is not a Journaled File System!
