EUROPEAN COMMISSION

RFSC Conference, Brussels, 9th October 2013

Present

• Urban challenges increasing in importance

• Empowered cities and an integrated approach needed

Regional

Policy

• Integrated strategies and projects are at the heart of next programming period - 5% ERDF requirement, CLLD etc.

• RFSC can have a key role in the creation and checking of these strategies and projects

• A desire for greater dissemination – RFSC can be the common language (but a growing community is needed!)

Future Vision

• A more visible, flexible, relevant tool - Commission proposal is to include RFSC under URBACT III

• Clear Benefits – enhanced dissemination, stability, visibility

Regional

Policy

• Clear Benefits – enhanced dissemination, stability, visibility

• Commission will financially strengthen future URBACT

• Increased synergies: RFSC > URBACT > Urban Development Network > wider Urban Agenda

• Work towards a more user-friendly, flexible tool – we need your views!
