• India no.1 in Road Accidents.• India suffers from highest number of deaths around

150000 in absolute terms annually.• INDIA:2012• Accidents : 4.97 lakh (1 every minute) • Deaths: 1,42,485 (one death every 4 min)• Road traffic injuries(RTIs) was 9th leading cause of

death in 2004 and expected to be 5th leading cause of death by 2030.

• Over Speeding• Drunk Driving• Using Mobile Phones while Driving• Irresponsible Driving• Ignoring Safety Precautions• Not wearing of helmets and seatbelts• Poor road infrastructure &Congested city

How to prevent Road Accidents

• Maintaing of Roads:• It include maintaing existing roads.• Improving road surface.• Constructng guards.• Rails.• Proper signs &widening of roads.• There should be good lighting in night.

How to prevent Road Accidents

• Road User:• Diving tests for issue of Driving license is to be made

more stringent and foolproof.• Raising of lower age limit for two wheeler and

Heavy Vehicle license to 21.• Helmet should be made compulsory by law in all

states.• Helmet should be made compulsory for back seat

riders also.

• Strict enforcement of existing traffic rules.• Children below a certain age should not be

permitted to do cycling in busy roads / roads where heavy vehicles are plying.

• Administrative measures:• Enforcing traffic rules strictly.• Proper law to avoid drunken driving and in repetitive

offender’s license should be cancelled.

Safety awareness

• Safety awareness should begin from childhood.• Video and Computer Games that simulate Racing

should be banned by the Government OR discouraged by parents as it will develop racing habit in children.

• TV and other media should be effectively used for Public safety awareness.

• All sorts of Motor sports especially racing should be banned by government.
