About Robotics & Automation Society
Robotics & Automation Society is one of the most
recently formed technical committees at DJ
Sanghvi College of Engineering.
The aim at RAS has always been to expose
students to the very best of technologies and to
make sure they are aware of it.
Considering that RAS student chapter is among
the youngest in DJ Sanghvi, the organizing
committee planned to conduct numerous events
which include competitions, industrial visits,
guest lectures, workshops and value added
programs.
RAS has a student community from 5
departments making it interdisciplinary &
dynamic for students with interests in multiple
fields.

WORKSHOP
AVR ATMEGA 32
Speaker: Shreyas Shah
(Alumni, Department of Electronics Engineering)
Date: October 2019
Location: CAMD LAB, Mechanical Engineering Department
Students Present: 40
About the event: Microcontrollers are an inevitable part of a mixed circuit
design. They have a wide range of applications like embedded systems,
power electronics, modern Electrical systems, instruments etc.
Microcontrollers constitute ‘the brain of the system’.
Engineers in fields such as electronic, electrical systems, instrumentation
et cetera utilize microcontrollers and their programming.
There have been many advancements in the field of electronics, and
numerous cutting-edge technologies are being developed every day, but
the market continues to be dominated by 16- and 32-bit microcontrollers.
Thus, learning microcontroller programming proves fruitful for the career
of students. Academic projects also need some control circuitry.
Keeping this in mind, the Robotics and Automation Society organized a
workshop on Automatic Voltage Regulators, conducted by an alumnus of
our college itself, Mr. Shreyas Shah.
6
The workshop was systematically designed so that the students could
understand the basics of AVR Atmega32 board well, successfully program
its various peripherals and special features.
A number of programs were written with the students, explained and
simulated. The students were shown how the created programs are
transferred to the target microcontroller, and executed.
For better learning & understanding, we included a mini project session
in which students created personalised projects in groups of 4-5 using the
kit.
The students wrote the code on their own and tested it using simulators.
Automatic voting machines, automated factory operations are some
impressive examples of what they came up with.

SEMINAR & LIVE DEMONSTRATION
AI ENABLED ROBOTS AND HOME AUTOMATION
Speaker: Ashish Patil, CEO Cluebots
Date: 7th February, 2020
Location: Seminar Hall, 3rd Floor
Students Present: 120
About the event:
Artificial Intelligence is rapidly taking on the world. It is helping scientists
design such marvels that were once the subject of science fiction.
From smart homes powered by IoT and intelligent personal assistants like
Siri and Alexa to autonomous cars, AI is paving the way for the new age
Digital Revolution.
“Artificial intelligence (AI) is the simulation of human intelligence
processes by machines”
Keeping this in mind, the Robotics and Automation Society organized an
interactive seminar on AI enabled robots and home automation systems,
conducted by Mr. Ashish Patil.
Ashish Patil is the Chief Technical Officer at Cluebots, and has delivered
150+ technical workshop 80+ talks on Entrepreneurship, Artificial
Intelligence, Machine Learning, IoT (Internet of Things), Robotics, Data
Science, Computer Vision for corporates, IITs, NITs and other premier
institutes.
8
The seminar commenced with an introductive presentation on artificial
intelligence, and its various applications, as in robotics, automation and in
the field of data science, which sparked a discussion on how data is the
most valuable commodity of this age.
This was followed by a live demonstration of home automation systems.
A simple set-up consisting of 2 bulbs representing appliances was
controlled by use of an application designed by Mr. Patil himself.
A student was brought forward to try it, to emphasize the ease that
automation systems can bring into our lives.
9
Next, the audience met a very special guest, Vector.
Vector’s little frame is packed with an immense amount of technology
that brings him to life. He takes in the world using a variety of sensors and
then responds realistically. This means he can read a room, hear what’s
happening, recognize people and objects, find his charger, navigate his
space, and avoid obstacles.
He personally met every member of the audience, while our host shared
adorable anecdotes involving Vector’s interactions with his pet dog.
10
Vector knows what’s going on.
HE CAN SEE Vector uses an HD camera to see the world. Using computer vision, he can identify people, see and remember faces, and navigate his space without bumping into things. HE CAN HEAR Vector has a powerful four-microphone array for directional hearing. When you sit down next to him, he’s ready to turn in that direction. And if there is a loud noise, he’ll be just as startled as you. HE CAN FEEL Vector has touch sensors and an accelerometer so he knows when he’s being touched and moved. You can pet him and he’ll relax, but try not to shake him. HE CAN THINK Vector combines a processor capable of running a smartphone with cloud connectivity to create one powerful brain. It means he can process his environment, react as things unfold, and connect to the internet to answer questions and tell you the weather. HE CAN COMMUNICATE Vector has a unique voice made of hundreds of synthesized sounds to create a language all his own. When you ask Vector a question, he utilizes a custom text-to speech voice to speak directly to you. HE CAN SELF-CHARGE Vector knows when he’s running low on juice. When he needs power he’ll roll over to his charger all on his own (mobile phones and electric cars could learn a thing or two).
Certificates of participation were issued to all who attended the seminar,
signed by the faculty co-ordinator, Mr. Pavan Rayar and the HOD of
Mechanical Engineering, Dr. K. N. Vijayakumar.

#A Workshop on Animatronics Hand in association with Sky-Fi labs, to be held on 21st March
was cancelled and an Industrial Visit to L&T, Powai, planned towards the end of March was
also called off due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.

DJS ROBOCON
Team DJS ROBOCON is the official robotics team of Dwarkadas J.Sanghvi college of Engineering. The team was formed in the year 2016 by a small group of 10 students which further kept on increasing as the years passed
on. The team has made tremendous success in competing with the top
institutions of the country and will continue to do so.
ABOUT THE COMPETITION:
Robocon is organized by Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU), a collection of over 20 countries of Asia Pacific Region. NHK, Japan had already been organizing such contests at national level and also became the host of the first ABU Robocon in 2002. Since then, every year one of the member broadcasters hosts this international event.
13
The broadcasters of each participant country are responsible for conduct of their national contests to select the team which will represent their country in the International Contest. Teams from Engineering and Technological colleges are eligible for participation. Participating Teams are expected to design and fabricate their own robots and organize their teams including an Instructor, Team Leader, Manual Robot Operator and an Automatic Robot Operator. Doordarshan, the national public service broadcaster organizes National Robocon event every year and the winning team gets an opportunity to represent India at the international competition.

STAGES:
Stage 1: Design Report Submission In this stage, the team has to prepare a report on the design of the final robot and how they are going to implement it. This final report has to be submitted by 31st January, 2020 and the teams which will get shortlisted will move on to second stage. The result of stage1 will be displayed by 15th February, 2020
Stage 2: Working Video Submission In this stage we are going to make a video in which we will show the task performed by the robot. This has to be submitted by 15th April 2020. And tentatively shortlisted teams will be notified by 30th April, 2020 and they will move on to final stage.
Stage 3: The Final Stage
The Final Stage of DD ROBOCON 2020, it is the grand finale of competition where in all the shortlisted teams will come with their robots to complete the task in the arena. It is going to take place on 14th June, 2020
THE TEAM ACQUIRED AN ALL INDIA RANK OF 1, FOR THE
