A MESSAGE FOR YOU

Origin and a little history about Lent
Let us remember firsthand that the celebration of Our Lord’s Easter is the primary celebration of our faith and liturgy. Hence the need for an adequate preparation, by prayer, fasting and almsgiving, according to The Way prescribed by our Lord. It was in the second through fourth centuries that this period of Easter preparation began to solidify, until it reached the liturgical reality that we know today as Lent. THE ASHES:
Toward the end of the fifth century, the Wednesday and Friday before the first Sunday of Lent began to be celebrated as part of the penitential period. On such Wednesday, penitents, by the imposition of the ashes, entered formally into the preparation period for Easter. THE 40 DAYS:
The theological meaning of Lent is very rich. First of all, it shouldn’t be overlooked that all western tradition begins Lent with the gospel reading of the temptations of Jesus in the desert: the Lenten period thus consists of a desert-like experience, that, just as in the Lord’s, prolongs to forty days. During Lent, the Church lives an intense spiritual battle, as a time of fasting and trial. That is how it is manifested in the forty years of wandering of the people of Israel around the Sinai. Also, Moses’ and Elias’ forty days previous to their encounter with Yaweh. CONCLUDES:
The morning of Holy Thursday with the Chrism Mass; in our Diocese the Chrism Mass is celebrated on Monday of Holy Week. Your servant in Christ, Fr. Benjamin Rivera

A Reflection on Lenten Fasting
If possible, the fast on Good Friday is continued until the Easter Vigil (on Holy Saturday night) as the "paschal fast" to honor the suffering and death of the Lord Jesus, and to prepare ourselves to share more fully and to celebrate more readily his Resurrection. For members of the Latin Catholic Church within the United States, please see the USCCB’s Pastoral Statement on Penance and Abstinence and the complimentary norm to canon 1253.

Safe Environment Bilingual Facilitators Needed
Would you like to be a part of educa ng others on keeping a safe environment in our parish? Christ the King is in need of people willing to facilitate the safe environment program; “Protec ng God’s Children for Adults” and “Called to Protect for Youth.”
Safe Environment facilitators should be comfortable speaking in front of large groups while discussing sexual abuse and boundary issues. A successful trainer remains level headed under stress while being compassion-ate toward others. Becoming a Safe Environment facilitator requires par cipa on in a “Train the Trainer” class. Ongoing me commitments for facilitators involve 4 hour blocks to train the parish 2-3 mes a year, or as needed.
Contact the Parish Safe Environment Coordinator, Mireya Aponte 480-844-4467 to receive an applica on and schedule an interview to volunteer.

Dear Lord, teach me to be generous,
teach me to serve you as you deserve,
to give and not to count the cost,
to fight and not to heed the wound,
to toil and not to seek for rest,
to labor and not to ask for a reward,
save that of knowing that I do Your will.

enséñanos a ser generosos,

Be forgiven. Be forgiven. Be forgiven of the sin that you hold on. Be forgiven. Be forgiven. Jesus died and rose that you might know His love and be forgiven.
Jesus told you, he wants your peace. Jesus told you he wants you healed. Jesus lifted up the blind man, he lifted up the dead. He lifted those who mourn their own. He did just what he said. Jesus rose for you and He rose for me. He died and rose that we might know His peace, and . . .
Jesus walked the miles that it took to reach us. Jesus touched the leper that you shouldn’t touch. Jesus wept for Lazarus, don’t you think he’ll do the same for you and me when we are dead, and we are in our graves? Jesus rose for you and He rose for me. He died and rose that we might know His peace, and . . .
Like the women at the well He looks into our eyes and tells us everything that we have ever done. With a love that’s plain to see He is calling you and me to follow Him that we might truly be. . .
Forgiven, forgiven. Forgiven of the sin that we hold on. Be forgiven. Be forgiven. Jesus died and rose that we might know His love, and be forgiven.
CF Hernaman Music: Day's Psalter 1562
Lord, who throughout these forty days for us did fast and pray, teach us with you to mourn our sins and close by you to stay.
As you with Satan did contend, and did the victory win, O give us strength in you to fight, in you to conquer sin.
As you did hunger and did thirst, so teach us, gracious Lord, to die to self, and so to live by your most holy Word.
And through these days of penitence, and through your Passiontide, forevermore, in life and death, O Lord, with us abide.
Abide with us, that through this life of doubts and hope and pain, an Easter of unending joy we may at last attain!
Lord Jesus Christ, I firmly believe that you are present in this Blessed Sacrament as true God and true Man, with your Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity. My Redeemer and my Judge,
I adore your Divine Majesty together with the angels and saints. I believe, O Lord; increase my faith.
Mt 4: 4 One does not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes forth from the mouth of God.
John Michael Talbot © 1982 Birdwing Music
I am the Bread of Life. All who eat this Bread will never die.
I am God's love revealed. I am broken that you might be healed.
All who eat of this heavenly Bread; All who drink this cup of the covenant.
You will live forever for I will raise you up.
No one who comes to Me shall ever hunger again. No one who believes shall ever thirst.
All that the Father draws shall come to Me; And I will give them rest.

Your words, Lord, are Spirit and life. Your words, Lord, are Spirit and life.
The law of the LORD is perfect, refreshing the soul;
The decree of the LORD is trustworthy, giving wisdom to the simple.
Your The precepts of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart;
The command of the LORD is clear, enlightening the eye.
The fear of the LORD is pure, enduring forever
the ordinances of the LORD are true, all of them just.
They are more precious than gold, than a heap of purest gold;
sweeter than syrup or honey from the comb.
Let the words of my mouth and the thought of my heart find favor before you.
Oh, Lord, my rock and my redeemer.
Tom Booth © 1998 OCP
Father, I give myself to You, do with me as You will. For whatever You do, I thank You. I am ready for all.
Let only Your will be done in me, as is done in Your creation. I ask nothing else.
Father, I surrender, I place myself in Your hands, Because You are my Father. And because I love You.
Into Your hands, I commend my spirit.
Composer: Traditional French melody adapted by Giovanni Battista Pergolesi Arr. Jarrod Townsend Lyricist: Edmund Vaughn, C.S.S.R.
God of Mercy and compassion, look with pity upon me. Father, let me call Thee Father, 'tis Thy child returns to Thee.
Jesus, Lord, I ask for mercy; let me not implore in vain; All my sins I now detest them, never will I sin again.
By my sins I have deserved death and endless misery; Hell, with all its pains and torments, and for all eternity.
By my sin I have abandoned right and claim to heav'n above; Where the saints rejoice forever, in a boundless sea of love.
