• on the European continent• in the European Union (green)

•Romania is situated in the South–East of Central Europe.

•It is the 9th largest country in Europe.

•The population is of 22,6 million people

•8 major historical areas: Muntenia, Oltenia, Transilvania, Banat and Crișana, Maramureș, Moldova and Dobrogea.

•The main religion is Orthodox.

•Romania’s currency is leul.

Mini Travel Guide

The capital of Romania and the largest city, with 2 million citizens. It used to be called “Little Paris”.

- an area of 333.000 square meters

- the second place in the Guinness Book of World Records in the section “Administrative Buildings”

- it is structured on 6 levels. There are 1100 rooms, 440 of which are bureaus, more than 30 are halls, 4 restaurants, 3 libraries, a concert hall and 2 underground parking lots.

- The most important attractions are: The Black Church and The Rope Street (the narrowest street in Europe with a width of 135 cm).

- It was first mentioned in official documents in 1377.- It is believed to be the place where “Dracula” lived.

-The cultural and economic heart of Transylvania.- It has a very beautiful Botanical Garden.- It has a very big statue of Matei Corvin (Romanian and Hungarian lord).

- It was founded in the 12th century .- It resides on one of the biggest medieval fortifications in Romania.- In 2007 Sibiu was the Cultural Capital of Europe.

- Built in the half of the 15th century by Iancu de Hunedoara.- It was extended by his son, Matei Corvin.- Both of them had mixed origins: Romanian and Hungarian.

- These shapes were made by the wind and snow.- There are a lot of legends connected to these stones.

The Merry CemeteryFamous for its colourful tombstones with naive paintings describing, in an original and poetic manner, the persons that are buried there as well as scenes from their lives.

The legend of Baba Dochia is very old and it is celebrated in the spring between 1 and 9 March.

The 1st of March is also known as Mărțișor and celebrates the coming of spring.

The 8th of March is known as Mother’s Day and it is the day when all women are celebrated.

- Has a lot of influences: Greek, Turkish, Hungarian.- The traditional food is: sarmale and mamaliga cu smantana.- Other traditional dishes are: mici, ciorba de perisoare and as desert: cozonac and pasca.

The most popular drink in Romania is țuica.- it is made out of plums.- if you want to try something harder try pălinca and if you want something sweet then vișinata is for you.- We also have a lot of beer and tasty wines.

The most important Romanian poet and prose writer.The most famous poem is Luceafarul written in 1883.
