Our Problem, 1:18-3:20

• The entire Gentile world is guilty before God, 1:18-32

• The entire Jewish world is guilty before God, 2:1-2:9

• The entire world is found guilty before God, 3:10-20

God Declares…

1. YOU… Jews, Moralist, Religionist have no excuse!

Romans 2:1-4 1 You, therefore, have no excuse, you who pass judgment on someone else, for at

whatever point you judge the other, you are condemning yourself, because you who pass

judgment do the same things. 2 Now we know that God's judgment against those who do such

things is based on truth.

1. YOU… Jews, Moralist, Religionist have no excuse!

3 So when you, a mere man, pass judgment on them and yet do the same things, do you think

you will escape God's judgment? 4 Or do you show contempt for the riches of his kindness,

tolerance and patience, not realizing that God's kindness leads you toward repentance?

1. YOU… Jews, Moralist, Religionist have no excuse!

…you who pass judgment on someone else… you judge the other

• Hypocritical Actions, 2:3

…you, a mere man, pass judgment on them and yet do the same things

1. YOU… Jews, Moralist, Religionist have no excuse!

• Contemptable Thinking, 2:4

… you show contempt for the riches of his kindness, tolerance and patience, not realizing that God's

kindness leads you toward repentance

2. YOU… Will give an account someday!

Romans 2:5-6 5 But because of your stubbornness and your unrepentant heart, you are storing up

wrath against yourself for the day of God's wrath, when his righteous judgment will be revealed. 6

God "will give to each person according to what he has done."

2. YOU… Will give an account someday!

Romans 2:16 16 This will take place on the day when God will judge men's secrets through Jesus

Christ, as my gospel declares.

• Judgment sure & meted out, 2:16

“…day of God's wrath, when his righteous judgment will be revealed”

Hebrews 9:27 27 Just as man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment,

Revelation 22:12 12 "Behold, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to

everyone according to what he has done.

3. YOU… Are filled with Arrogance! 2:17-29

Romans 2:17-20 17 Now you, if you call yourself a Jew; if you rely on the law and brag about your relationship to

God; 18 if you know his will and approve of what is superior because you are instructed by the law; 19 if you are convinced that you are a guide for the blind, a light

for those who are in the dark, 20 an instructor of the foolish, a teacher of infants, because you have in the law

the embodiment of knowledge and truth—

• Relationship with God, 2:17

“…brag about your relationship to God”

Trusting in their: • Religious roots, 2:17

• Reliance on the Law, 2:17

• Relationship with God, 2:17

• Recognition of God’s Will, 2:18

“…you know his will”

3. YOU… Are filled with Arrogance! 2:17-29

Four Questions posed, DO YOU? Vs21-23

Romans 2:24 24 As it is written: "God's name is blasphemed among the Gentiles

because of you."

4. YOU… Are a Sinner needing Salvation!

Romans 3:1,9 1 What advantage, then, is there in being a Jew, or what value is there in

circumcision?

What’s your Jewish advantage?

Entrusted with the very words of God, 3:2

Let God be true and every man a liar, 3:4

So we allow sin so God gets glory? NO WAY! 3:5-8

4. YOU… Are a Sinner needing Salvation!

Romans 3:9 What shall we conclude then? Are we any better? Not at all! We have already

made the charge that Jews and Gentiles alike are all under sin.
