Phytophthora cinnamomi

• Littleleaf Disease – Hosts = short leaf pine, southeastern USA

– Symptoms = sparse foliage, chlorotic needles, dieback,

death in 3-10 yrs

– Zoospores attacks feeder roots under wet conditions

Control = remove diseased trees, replant to non-host, do not

plant trees on sites that will cause stress (e.g. poorly

drained sites), fertilize landscape trees

75% of southern Australian forest species

– Symptoms = chlorosis and necrosis, stunted leaves, wilt, dieback, mortality

– Zoospores attack fine roots, especially in soils with a hardpan layer

– Control = quarantine, apply fungicide to vehicles moving through diseased zones, prevent entry of the pathogen in disease free areas (vehicles, people, livestock)
