Rowlands Gill Primary School Home Learning Pack (due to school closure) Class: Nursery Week: 9

Rhyme Time

Join in with lots of ocean songs and seaside rhymes

including

A Sailor went to sea….

The big ship sails on the ally ally oh…

One two three four five once I caught a fish alive….

Oh, I do like to be beside the seaside

Baby shark….!!

Learn some new oceans songs (See below)

Can you think of words that rhyme with sand, fish, fin,

wash, sea? ….

Using the fishing aquarium, add letters of your name and

go fishing for them. Can you spell out your name? (See

example below.)

Reading and Mark Making

Read the story Commotion in the Ocean and Shark in the Park (Links

below if you do not have a paper copy of the book).

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9pRhgZ8Jffs

What are your favourite characters? Where do they live? Some

animals that live under the sea have fins to help them move like fish,

others have legs. Can you find out about the different sea creatures

and make your own book. Draw the pictures and try to label them

with the initial sound (grown-ups can help with this part).

Imagine you have found a magic shell and you can make one wish.

Draw a picture of the shell and the wish you made.

Another rhyming story to enjoy ‘Shark in the park!’

Maths

Using some small world sea

creatures or pictures you can

print or draw, order the sea

creatures or animals by size.

Which one is biggest? Which

is the longest? Is the sea

animal bigger or smaller than

a land animal?

Using the aquarium, you have

made, draw numbers to 10 on

some fish and place them in.

Go ‘fish’ for a number (See

example below)

Physical Development

Play a game of crab football with your family.!

Make some jelly and add different sea creatures in. Can

you pick them out without dropping them? Try using some

tweezers, is this more difficult?

When you go for your walk can you identify any plastic or

rubbish you see, if safe take this home to recycle to keep

our local environment safe and clean.

If you visit the beach look for signs of recycling or plastic

pollution. Look for the different symbols and take a photo

to share.

Understanding the world

Plastic pollution is a big problem in

our oceans. Use the internet to find

out about it.

Watch the video clip Go Jetters

https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/class-

clips-video/pshe-eyfs-ks1-go-

jetters-environment-weather-and-

climate/zfb3scw

In your bath or sink add lots of

different plastic materials and sea

creatures. Fish them out to keep

the water nice and clean.

Expressive Arts and Design

Make an aquarium using a shoe

box and junk materials. (See

example below).

If you visit the beach you

could add your own sand and

shells.

Make a piggy bank from

recycled plastic materials

Personal Social emotional

Development

Can you help your grown -ups

recycle your rubbish? Help

sort into groups before they

go into the bin. Make a

poster about recycling. Put it

in your window for your

binman to show that you are

learning all about plastic

pollution and recycling.

Perhaps you could to tell him

next time he comes to empty

the rubbish bins.

We are planning this week’s home learning activities around World Ocean day which is Monday 8th June. The story to go alongside is

Commotion in the Ocean. If you do not have the story at home you can access it on you tube at

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9pRhgZ8Jffs .

I have included pictures of examples of work to give you an idea of some of the activities you can complete. Please continue to share

your learning on Tapestry.

Thank you. EYFS Team
