We need to make good use of what we have. If not, the piece of paper will remain as a piece of paper.

What we choose to do will determine what shapes us. It is to be purposeful and have the end in mind. - Michelle

Generativity and Sense of Purpose:

Sense of purpose and Generativity

Discuss …

• Put yourself in the shoes of one of the staff members in the office. How would you have reacted?

• Put yourself in the shoes of the office linebacker, Terry Tate. Why do you think he was behaving in this way?

Sense of purpose and Generativity (Mindset)

Change your language and you change your thoughts.Change your thoughts and you change your world.

Change the way you see things, and the things you see will change.

Wayne Dyer

A fixed mindset is one in which you view your talents and abilities as... well, fixed. In other words, you are who you are, your intelligence and talents are fixed, and your fate is to go through life avoiding challenge and failure. A growth mindset, on the other hand, is one in which you see yourself as fluid, a work in progress. Your fate is one of growth and opportunity.

Developing a Growth Mindset

1• Learn to hear your fixed mindset “voice”.

2• Recognise that you have a choice.

3• Talk back to it with a growth mindset

voice.

4• Take the growth mindset action.

Fixed vs Growth Mindset Statements

Fixed Mindset

• BT: I don’t have the capability and talent.

• BT: I’m not ready for evaluation yet.

Growth Mindset

• Mentor to BT: You’re doing things that you couldn’t a month ago. You have the basic ability and it was through dedication and hard work. Great job and keep working at it.

Experience is not what happens to a man: it is what a man does with what happens to him.

Aldous Huxley

• Was asked to consider leadership track or teaching track

Case Study 2 • Feels not competent enough for STship• Has worked with experienced senior teachers

, lead teachers and master teachers at school, cluster and national levels.

Affirmation (Encouragement)

Our words have the power to hurt or to heal:

The world already has plenty of discouragers,

choose to be an encourager.

Act as if what you do makes a difference. It does.
