SaaS Maturity

Software Leaders Meeting4-8-2014

My observations, experience, research, thoughts

OnSaaS Maturity

Model?

Business Model?Architectural Model?

Something More?

Business Model

Forrester’s Model

Architecture

Microsoft’s Model

1: Ad Hoc/Custom2: Configurable3: Multi-Tenancy4: Configurable,

multi-tenant, scaleable

My take…

Mature SaaS companies are Forrester 3-4 and Microsoft 4, with robust APIs but, more importantly, they view their product differently

Everything is part of the product:Functional and Non-Functional

Provisioning/BillingConfiguration/Customization

SandboxesHelp/Training

Even…Subdomains

SSOAPI Access

Compliance Requests (SSAE-16)Etc.

Anything worth doing is worth making it a feature

Otherwise it’s probably not worth doing

Making significant money (or treating it like a profit center) from

professional services or customizations is usually a sign,

IMO, of an immature SaaS organization
