SAC 1 – Case Study Analysis

Key skills• NPAG – FITT (dimensions) for each age group / population

group.• NPAG and your initiative (research)• Objective & subjective methods of assessing PA – know

advantages and disadvantages. How the methods can be used to measure the dimensions in NPAG

• E.g heart rate monitor = intensity, freq & duration – not type• Social ecological model – what is it? Know the model and its

components (4)• Apply this model to critique physical activity interventions

(govt or non govt). How does your initiative fit into the SE model

Sub & Objective measures

• What do they measure and what don’t they measure?

• Good table 1.7 (not complete) on Page 13. Do a summary table for all measures. Use the dimensions – FITT

• Know advantages & disadvantages of each measure

• Who and what age groups would you use these measures on? E.g. kids

Social Ecological Model

• What is it?• What does it look like?• Four levels – individual, social environment,

physical environment & policy. These need to be targeted when designing a successful initiative or program… how does your initiative use these four levels? What is missing? What is covered well?

Apply the SE model

• Complete student activity on Page 63 – use template to critique your initiative.

• Read ‘Tailoring social ecological models” on Page 66 & 67

Target groups

• What are some of the most inactive Australians?– Indigenous Australians– Women– Migrant groups– Low socio economic status– What other groups can interventions target?Who does your intervention target? E.g. children
