SACURIMA - Background

• Agriculture has high rates of work-related injuries, illnesses, disabilities and deaths.

• Great differences in national injury and illness rates, preventive programs and financial support for prevention

• Only few successful interventions have been found found in systematic reviews.

• This COST Action focuses on gaining a better understanding of safety culture and risk management in agriculture

SACURIMA Objectives

• WG1 - identify and evaluate agricultural health and safety programmes and approaches on the national level;

• WG2 - identify knowledge, attitudes, behaviours and priorities among farmers regarding safety, health and risk management;

• WG3 - identify effective models for training and integrating vulnerable populations (including refugees and young workers) into the agricultural workforce;

• WG4 - develop means and indicators for monitoring progress and evaluating impact of interventions on injuries and illnesses in agriculture; and

• WG5 - disseminate results to stakeholders and the agricultural community.

SACURIMA Innovative Contributions • WG1: inventory of national approaches to improve

agricultural safety and health.

• WG 2: tools to measure safety culture; Safety Culture Index for benchmarking national performance.

• WG 3: measures to train and integrate vulnerable populations, including refugees, in the agricultural workforce.

• WG 4: assessment of existing data collection systems; improving safety and health indicators for agriculture.

• WG 5: dissemination to primary target audiences.
