“And this is my prayer: that your love may increase ever more and more in knowledge and every kind of perception, to discern what is of value…” PHILIPPIANS 1:9-10
Glittery holiday ads can blind us to our stewardship values and distort our needs and wants. It is important that during this season of endless buying we remember that each of us also has the need to give back to God and to those that are in need.

The Plain City Police Department has asked us to be mindful of parking at the Church during the Christmas season. Please do not block driveways, sidewalks or fire hydrants. As always, please be courteous to fellow drivers and allow adequate space for maneuvering. Additional parking is available in the lot south of the church at Gay street and Knapp Alley near S. Chillicothe Street. Thank you.
for your information Second Week of Advent: Family Traditions
Creating and continuing family traditions are very important at Advent. Even more
important is spending time with family, especially your elders.
Here are some ideas:
~ At dinner ask everyone what their most special Christmas present was when they were little. The answers from Grandma and Grandpa might surprise you.
~ Record your family singing Christmas carols around the tree.
~ Come to confession. There is no better way to welcome Jesus than with a clean soul.
~ Make a Jesse Tree by using special ornaments from each member of your family.
~ Start a Memory Book. During Advent ask each member of your family to write down their favorite memory of past holidays. Who was there? What did you do? What did you have to eat? How was the weather?
~ Make an easy bird feeder by smothering peanut butter on a pine cone and covering it with bird seed. Hang it outside and watch the birds appreciate your giving.
~ Come to adoration at the church and spend a quiet hour in reflective prayer and thanksgiving to the Lord who has given us so much.
~ Offer a ride to an elderly neighbor to go shopping or ask them if you can pick up anything for them while you are shopping.
~ Visit the graves of your dearly departed. Adorn them with items allowed by the cemetary, such as a pine wreath.
~ Put down the electronics and have family game night with hot cocoa and popcorn.
~ Bake cookies and share them with the police and fire department who keep us safe.
~ Send a card of encouragement to a deployed military person or send them a care package. Find an organization such as www.soldierangels.com for more information.
Whatever you choose to do, keep doing it and show your family the spirit of giving. Email us your family traditions at bulletin@saintjosephplaincity.com

gifts for life:
During this Christmas Season, St. Joseph Parish in conjunction with the Knights of Columbus Council #12772, would like to begin a new tradition of following the Magi and their gifts for the new born King.In many European countries, parishes collect baby items beginning December 26 (Feast of St. Stephen) through February 2 (Candlemas) and leave them at the manger scene. In keeping with this tradition, we are asking you to take a tote bag we are providing and fill it up with suggested supplies that will be noted on the bag and return it to the manger scenes in the church and the PAC by February 2, 2019. All items collected will go to the New Path Pregnancy Center in Marysville. This project will also coincide with the Forty Days For Life national compaign.
We thank you for your generous hearts and hope it will be a strong addition to our St. Joseph Ministries.~ John Ciuca, Deputy Grand Knight, St. Joseph Parish Council #12772.
