A faculty member who receives a job performance rating that is below “Effective” is not entitled to step pay increases. Plan 2 – Merit Plan (Mandatory for HS Faculty hired after July 1, 2014 and optional for others) In accordance with Florida Statutes 1012.22 and 1012.34, high school faculty hired on or after July 1, 2014 will be subject to a Merit Plan, whereby salary increases are determined by job performance evaluation ratings. Participation is mandatory. There are no pay steps in the Merit Plan and no salary maximum. Salary increases for Merit Plan participants rated as “Effective” on their job performance evaluations cannot receive a lower salary increase than those on Step Plans. Merit Plan participants rated as “Highly Effective” must receive a greater increase in salary than Step Plan participants. Employees who receive either "Needs Improvement" or "Unsatisfactory" are not be eligible for salary increases. Faculty members hired prior to July 1, 2014 have the option to participate in the Merit Plan, but if they elect to do so, they must give up their continuing contracts and cannot return to the traditional Step Plan in the future. As with the Step Plan, supplemental salary increases based on the possession or attainment of a graduate degree can only be applied if the degree is within the academic discipline taught by the faculty member. Starting salaries for High School Faculty The table below is used to determine the starting salary for newly hired collegiate high school faculty members. Starting salaries are based strictly on years of directly related teaching experience and level of education, using Steps 0 through 10. Starting rates cannot exceed step 10. Additional compensation for a graduate degree is only applicable when the degree is within the faculty member’s area of certification.

ACADEMIC ACCOUNTING POINT PAYMENTS: Payment for points in excess of a standard workload as defined and in accordance with Polk State College Procedure 1006. Payment will be at the following rate: one (1) Academic Accounting Point paid at four (4) times the overload hourly rate.
ACCOMPANIST: Individual employed to provide musical accompaniment within the College’s music program not associated with
theater productions. ADJUNCT INSTRUCTIONAL ASSIGNMENT: An instructional assignment assigned to an individual who is classified as a part-
time College employee. BUS DRIVER: A qualified individual employed to drive the Polk State College Activity/Athletic bus on an as-needed basis. CHILDCARE WORKER: Individual employed and assigned to work in a college-sponsored childcare center or children’s
educational program. CIAP LEAD TEACHER: Individual who is determined to be qualified to provide lead instructional support to the Collaborative
Instructional Assistance Program (CIAP). The individual shall be state-certified as a teacher at the middle and/or high school levels, and will provide instructional sessions focusing on preparation for the FCAT, SAT and/or ACT as well as other special needs areas.
COACHING SUPPLEMENT: Salary paid to an individual, either full-time or part-time, to perform typical duties and assume
appropriate responsibilities for one of several college-sponsored activities as follows: (An annual supplement is subject to monthly proration).

sponsored special event or a contracted event using College facilities. An assignment carries a two-hour minimum. FIGURE MODEL (OPS WORKER): Part-time, temporary position for figure modeling in art classes. HS SUBSTITUTE: A temporary instructional assignment made in the absences of the initially assigned high school instructor. The position requires a bachelor’s degree, and prior instructional experience is preferred. INSTRUCTIONAL ASSESSMENT/DEVELOPMENT/PLANNING/COORDINATION: A category of assignment designed to identify several types of activities including the following:
developing new course instructional techniques for a new, different clientele or delivery method (Ex: Internet)
assisting in, coordinating or conducting assessment activities in support of institutional effectiveness
assisting in, or coordinating unit planning activities, or a strategic initiative
providing support coordination such as ensuring room availability and set-up, monitoring attendance, developing and implementing a new course, and other similar and related instructional activities

SUPPLEMENTARY SERVICE DEFINITIONS INSTRUCTIONAL OVERLOAD: An instructional assignment over and above the standard workload assigned to a full-time employee. Authorized temporary leave will not result in reduction of overload compensation. INSTRUCTIONAL STAFF MENTOR: A member of the full-time instructional staff formally assigned to assist new instructor(s)
(mentee) in adjusting to the culture, practices, policies, procedures and standards of Polk State College. INSTRUCTIONAL SUPPORT: Individuals employed on a part-time basis who provide instructional assistance in classroom or
laboratory settings. Example: CPR assistance. LANGUAGE TRANSLATOR/INTERPRETER: Individual employed to assist in the instructional process by providing translation
to enhance and facilitate communications with students and clients with limited English proficiency. OPS WORKER: Individual employed to perform part-time, temporary clerical, secretarial or other work for the College. This work
cannot be for direct instructional support. The Vice President, Administration/Chief Financial Officer may waive the standard pay rate if the OPS position needs highly-technical skills that cannot be obtained without paying more.
ORGANIZATIONAL ASSESSMENT/DEVELOPMENT SERVICES: Specialized organizational assessment and development
services provided by an individual employed by Workforce Education to render such services for a designated client. Includes assessment, design, development and preparation. Requires prior written approval by Vice President, Academic Affairs.
MUSICIANS PERFORMANCE: Individual employed to provide musical services for a College performance or event not related

manager in the coordination and management of program-related activities. A bachelor’s degree is required. PART-TIME PROJECT COORDINATOR: Assignments for an individual on a part-time, temporary basis to assist in the
coordination and management of department or college wide projects. A bachelor’s degree is required. PART-TIME PROFESSIONAL LIBRARIAN: Individual who meets professional librarian criteria who is employed on a part-time,
hourly basis to provide professional librarian services.
PORTRAIT MODEL: (OPS WORKER): Part-time, temporary position for portrait modeling in art classes.
PRIOR LEARNING ASSESSMENT: Portfolio evaluation and review provided by a full-time faculty member.

Requires evidence of appropriate industry certifications. Course instruction will be in a commercial format and is not applicable to credit courses. Compensation includes consideration of development (including customer meetings, conference calls, as needed) preparation, coordination, and instruction. Requires prior written approval by Vice President, Academic Affairs.
PROFESSIONAL INSTRUCTIONAL SERVICES/LICENSURE TRAINING: Instructional services provided by a current qualified
part-time College employee, or specialized professional instructor particularly for licensure training or training leading to a certificate. Licensure or certificate training includes, but is not limited to the Department of Insurance (DOI) approved courses, Department of Labor (DOL) MSHA or OSHA mandated training, and computer software certificates (i.e., Microsoft, Adobe, etc.). Compensation includes consideration of development (including customer meetings, conference calls, as needed) preparation, coordination, and instruction. Requires prior written approval by the Vice President, Academic Affairs.
PROFESSIONAL TUTOR: Individual with a bachelor’s degree or higher who possesses special skills or training in a specific subject area or field. This position provides individual or small-group instructional reinforcement.
PROOFREADER: Individual who reads proofs in order to find errors and mark corrections. SPECIAL PROJECT: A project or activity assigned and undertaken beyond the scope of the employee’s regularly assigned
duties. A special project, including an SPD project, may be paid on a straight contract basis. A project may also be paid on an Academic Accounting Point basis [see PSC Procedure 1006]. When projects are paid on an accounting point basis, payment will be at the following rate: One (1) Academic Accounting Point paid at four (4) times the overload hourly rate.
SUBSTITUTE ASSIGNMENT: A temporary instructional assignment made in the absence of the initially assigned instructor. An
individual who performs substitute duties during what is normally regularly scheduled duty hours (including scheduled office hours) must have the prior approval of the appropriate dean and must adjust her/his regular schedule to compensate for the substitute hour(s) [See Procedure 1007].
SUPPLEMENTARY SERVICES: Services performed by either a part-time employee, or by a full-time employee who is providing
a service or function that is over and above his/her standard assigned responsibilities and/or outside the employee’s normal duty day. Exceptions for supplemental work performed by a full-time employee during normal duty hours must include appropriately adjusted work hours and must be approved by the appropriate member of President’s Staff.
TEST HALL MONITOR: Individual employed to monitor the testing hall and to provide examinees directions in the administration
of the CLEP, CPT, or other college-administered testing. TEST PROCTOR: Individual employed to supervise a designated group of examinees during the administration of CLEP, CPT, or
other college-administered testing. THEATER/FINE ARTS SUPPORT: Skilled theater and fine arts specialists and performers such as production managers,
choreographers, production directors, scenic/set designers, vocal coaches, performance coaches, costume specialists, approved musicians, etc.
TUTOR: Individual with less than a bachelor’s degree who possesses special skills or training in a specific subject area or field
who is employed to provide individual or small-group instructional reinforcement. A tutor may be a currently enrolled Polk State student, or a person with an Associate in Arts or Associate in Science degree or an equivalent number of credit hours from a regionally-accredited college or university. Tutors must demonstrate proficiency in the subjects in which they tutor and have taken and passed, with a grade of “B” or better, the course(s) in which they will tutor.
