Introduction
This plant was operationalised on 1st March, 1988, by Mr. J.R.D.Tata and has been
an important contributor for the TATA STEEL and also towards the power sector
in Jharia Division ever since.
The first of its kind in Asia at the time of installation, this plant has just one more
contemporary in India. The uniqueness of the plant arises from its principle
technology- generating power from waste. It uses the unique Fluidized bed
technology, to generate electricity from high ash content coal.Just like any other
coal based plant, it has almost same constructions. The difference lies in its fuel.
The fuel used in this plant is different from other conventional plants, as it has
around 60 % ash content as opposed to the mandatory low percentage.
