Dani Dodge “We always sleep alone (Undaunted)”
Dani Dodge explores the wars we wage within ourselves, and tells the stories in mixed media and installation. In this current show, “We Always Sleep Alone (Undaunted),” she examines the fear of being alone.
Dani is inspired by nearly two decades as a journalist. She began painting in 2004 after being embedded with the Marines in Iraq. Dani was part of a team that won a Pulitzer Prize in 2006, but left newspapers two years later to focus on telling stories through her art.
Dani works primarily by layering different media – acrylic paint, spray paint, ink and collage – to create raw, abstracted images that tell tales of loneliness, joy, pain and triumph – in short, of being human. Her latest work combines figurative painting and sculptural elements, such as doors, windows and bed frames. Her art has been included in national and international juried shows, and has won many awards. She is essentially self-taught but is grateful to artist mentors who helped her to trust her own voice.
She has garnered media attention on radio and television, and has been featured in publications including San Diego Magazine, Fine Magazine and The San Diego Union-Tribune.
A former San Diego resident, Dani now lives and works in Los Angeles.

SDAI’s Art Gym’s New Photographer’s Event
Art Gym at SDAI has been offering live model figure drawing opportunities successfully for quite a while. This very popular event started with 4 participants & now is held twice a week hosting 3-4 dozen participants each week.
On Monday, October 15th Art Gym offered its first live model shoot for photographers. Model Yoni Baker did a fantastic job posing nude, as a Trojan
warrior, as a Gladiator, and as a Zombie, including the transformation. Five photographers attended this premiere event.
The second live model photo shoot, this time with a female model, will be held from 6-9 pm, Monday, November 19th. The $20.00 fee includes a model release. For more information contact Jeffrey R. Brosbe at brosbe@cox.net.

The Gathering is a social, relaxed group where artists, aficionados, their spouses or significant others meet over potluck to discuss their latest work and adventures. Children are welcome but the work is not censored, so parental discretion is strongly advised.
The next Gathering dates will be:
November 4 and December 2Description and schedule:• 3:30 to 4:00: bring artwork and check in.• 4:00: doors are locked (ring the doorbell after 4).• 4:30-5:30: artists break off into groups of 9 artists to
present their work. (If enough under-age artists bring work, they will be given a separate group and leader.) Non-presenters can continue socializing or join the group of their choice.
• 5:30 to 6:00: groups finish up, reconvene, socialize and/or help tidy up.
Artists can bring up to 3 pieces of artwork. All skill levels show work for fun, feedback, mentoring and exposure. In the UU tradition there will be a ‘question of the day’ (hereafter known as ‘the Molly’), which artists can answer or ignore when showing their work.
Artists are encouraged to bring show flyers, books, magazines, announcements, etc., to share. People who bring Art and Food (or just food) get in free. Everyone else is $5 per individual, couple or family.
New members: this is a great opportunity to meet other members, show your work and see the work being created in the San Diego area.
Everyone else: show us your work, whether you’re getting into the juried shows or not. We want to see what you are doing and have the opportunity to talk with you.
SDAI is continually growing and evaluating programs in order to provide the artist community with exceptional programming and opportunities. Feedback is always appreciated and, if you would like to do so, please email Lesley Anderson at: eduprogramSDAI@gmail.com.
