What are Pintxos?

Pintxos are what many know as tapas and pinchos, though pintxos are specific to the Navarra region.

What  should  I  know    about  Spanish  wine?  

•  They have more vineyards than anywhere else but their yield is low due to a dry climate making them the third largest wine producer in the world.

•  White wine is called Vino Blanco

•  Red wine is called Vino Tinto

•  When ordering wine you can ask for: Una Copa (A glass) Una Botella de 3/8 L (Small bottle 2-3 glasses) Una Botella (A bottle)

When should I eat?

The Navarra region of Spain has five different meal times:

1. Desayuno 2. Almuerzo or Vermut

3. Comida 4. Merienda

5. Cena

Desayuno ���

•  Breakfast typically consists of coffee and a croissant or chocolate with churros eaten around 8:00AM or 9:00AM

Almuerzo or Vermut •  Almuezro or Vermut is typically morning Pintxos. They

are always enjoyed with either wine, mosto (wine but without alcohol), beer, and sometimes vermouth, anytime from 10:00AM to 1:00PM.

Comida

•  Comida is lunch and is the largest meal of the day, officially from 1:00PM to 3:00PM.

•  Merienda is afternoon pintxos or bocadillo enjoyed from 6:00PM to 7:00PM.

Cena

Cena (Dinner) is a lighter meal with wine and lots of good conversation that is normally enjoyed from 9:00PM to 1:00AM. Be sure to order from the kitchen by 11:30PM at the latest.

What  savory  dishes  should  I  try?  

•  Cordero al Chilindrón •  Ajoarriero •  Esparragos •  Tortilla de Patas •  Pimientos del Piquillo •  Estofado de Toro

Cordero al Chilindrón

Originally this dish was eaten during comida on Sundays. It’s now available in most restaurants.

Ajoarriero

This dish is traditional to the Navarra region. Historically, muleteers (drivers of mules) took cod from the river and cooked it with vegetables.

Esparragos

Esparragos  from  Navarra  are  tasty  because  they  are  from  the  local  area  and  therefore  very  fresh.  

Tortilla de Patas

The tortilla de patas is the Spanish omelette. Cheap, filling, and delicious, the tortilla de patas is a classic dish of Navarra. Many families of Pamplona have heirloom recipes of the tortilla de patas.

This popular pepper is produced in Lodosa, a village of Navarra. The peppers are enjoyed in a variety of ways. ���

Pimientos del Piquillo

Bull stew accompanied by potatoes. A special Pamplona dish traditionally served during San Fermin.

Estofado de Toro

Some natives of Pamplona drink this beef bouillon soup before running with the bulls. ���

Similar to French toast, flavored with cinnamon or liqueur, and sweetened with honey, syrup or sugar. This dessert has humble origins and is offered in many restaurants with hot chocolate and or ice cream.

Cuajada (Curd)

This popular dessert is made from fresh milk and sugar. It’s especially delicious when served with a drizzle of honey. ���

One of the most popular desserts in the Basque Country and Navarre, Canutillos is a type of puff pastry filled with cream and decorated with sugar. ���

Canutillos de Crema (Cannoli Cream)

A custard dessert that is creamy and has a hint of cinnamon.  It is made from milk, egg yolks, sugar and vanilla flavoring, and is delicious with a cookie base.

This refreshing dish of cheese, quince paste, and nuts it the perfect combination of , sweet, bitter and salty. Quince paste is like a thick jelly and is typically in desserts from Spain.
