2 Planning
2.1 Planning on UNIX
2.1.1 Available Clients on UNIXWhen you install the client software package, the following clients are installed:
● SQLDBC● ODBC● JDBC
2.1.2 Default Installation Paths for UNIXNote: If you do not specify an installation path during installation, the following default values apply:

2.2 Planning on Windows
2.2.1 Available Clients on WindowsWhen you install the client software package, the following clients are installed:
● SQLDBC● ODBO● ODBC● JDBC
Note: To access the SAP HANA database from Microsoft Excel, you can install the 32-bit SAP HANA client for Microsoft Excel. This is a self-extracting archive, which you can install independently of the other Windows clients. It uses an ODBC driver.
For more information on the supported clients for SAP HANA, see SAP Note 1577128.
2.2.2 Default Installation Paths for WindowsNote: If you do not specify an installation path during installation, the following default values apply:

3 Installation
3.1 Installation on UNIX
3.1.1 Installing the Client on UNIX● You must be logged on as the root user.
● You need a local X11 graphical environment and an X server on the machine where you perform the installation.
To install the SAP HANA database client software:
1. Download and extract the software to an empty directory.2. Open a root shell and go to the directory where you unpacked the software.
3. Call the program hdbsetup (GUI installation) or hdbinst (command-line installation) by entering one of the following commands: Option Description
GUI ./hdbsetup [-a client]
Command line ./hdbinst [-a client] [<option_list>]
You can omit the call option -a client if you only have one installation kit - that is, one installation variant - on your system.
4. Follow the instructions displayed by the installation tool.5. For the environment of users that will use the client, including the user <SID>adm, add the installatiion path to
the the library path environment variable. The library path environment variable differs according to the operating system:Operating System Library Path Environment Variable
AIX LIBPATH
HP-UX SHLIB_PATH
Linux LD_LIBRARY_PATH
Solaris LD_LIBRARY_PATH

The client software is installed.

3.1.2 Logging the Installation on UNIXThe installation is logged by the system. There are two log files written during installation:

● *.log: can be read using a text editor● *.msg: XML format for the display in the installation tool with the graphical user interface
The log files are stored here:
/var/tmp/hdb_client_<time_stamp>
3.2 Installation on Windows
3.2.1 Installing the Client on WindowsYou are logged on as a local administrator.
To install the client software on Windows:
1. Download and extract the software to an empty directory.2. Open a command prompt and go to the directory where you unpacked the software.3. Call the program hdbsetup (GUI installation) or hdbinst (command-line installation) by entering one of the
following commands: Option Description
GUI hdbsetup [-a client]
Command line hdbinst [-a client] [<option_list>]
You can omit the call option -a client if you only have one installation kit - that is, one installation variant - on your system.
4. Follow the instructions displayed by the installation tool.5. Add the installation path to the PATH environment variable.
For information on setting environment variables, see the documentation for your operating system.6. To install the 32-bit SAP HANA client for Microsoft Excel, double-click the self-extracting file
HDBCLIENTXLS.exe and follow the instructions in the installation manager.
The client software is installed.

Option - Long Option - Short Description
--archive_dir=<dir> -a <dir> Installation variant - specifies the directory containing the installation kit. For the client installation, specify -a client.
Note:
You can omit this call option if you only have one installation kit - that is, one installation variant - on your system. This is generally the case when you are installing from the DVD or from SAP Service Marketplace.
--batch -b Runs the program in batch mode using default values for any relevant call options that are not specified
--check_files Checks whether components of the installation kit are already installed on this host
--configfile=<file_name> Specifies a configuration file for using a preconfigured setup
The file must be in regular ini file format.
The specified name is interpreted by the installation program as relative to the installation directory. If the installation kit is located on a read-only file system (for example DVD), specify the absolute path to the configuration file.
--help -h Displays the list of installation options

Option - Long Option - Short Description
--hostname=<host_name> -H Specifies a virtual host name
If this option is not specified on the command line, the value is taken from the entry Hostname in the file <inst directory>/install/installation.ini (UNIX) or <inst directory>\install\installation.ini (Windows), if present.
Default: system host name, as returned by the operating system command hostname. This is generally the computer name without domain suffix.
--list_packages -l Displays available software components and their versions
--list_systems Displays a list of the installed SAP HANA systems, clients and studio on the host
--no_debug_packages Suppresses the installation of debug packages
--path=<path> Specifies the installation path
The default values are given here:

--version -v Displays the version of the installation program

4 Additional Information
4.1 Uninstallation of the Client
Each installation has its own uninstallation tool.
Use the hdbuninst program of the software package for which you want to uninstall the client software.
4.2 Uninstallation on UNIX
4.2.1 Uninstallation on UNIX in Interactive ModeYou are logged on to the host where the client software is installed.
You are logged on as the root user.
1. Open a root shell and go to the directory where you unpacked the software for this installation.
2. Enter the following command:./hdbuninst
3. Enter the ID of the client software installation and press Enter.
The client software is removed from this host.
4.2.2 Uninstallation on UNIX in Batch ModeTo call the hdbuninst program in batch mode, specify the installation path of the client software using the –path option.
If you omit the installation path, the program does not run in batch mode but instead queries the installation ID.
1. Open a root shell and go to the directory where you unpacked the software for this installation.
2. Enter the following command: ./hdbuninst --path <installation_path> -b

You are logged on as a local administrator.
