No Worries! It's officially spring, and depending on where
you live, spring is synonymous with the flowers blooming and the sun starting to come out
more. This gives us cause to celebrate and get ready to show off our beautiful skin! The only problem is that the cold weather can leave the skin dry, dull, and cracked. Don't worry, we have a few tips that will combat cold weather
and leave your skin looking beautiful and radiant!
Why is my skin more dry in the winter? You may notice that when the air is cold, your skin is more ashy and dry than usual. There are a few factual reasons for this. The first is that cold air is dry and lacks humidity. Dry air pulls the moisture out of the
skin, and makes it difficult for the skin to stay properly hydrated. Heavy winds also add to this problem. They strip the skin's lipids, which help to seal in the skins
moisture. Even those who wouldn't normally have dry skin, can develop a flaky and dull complexion if the
skin is exposed to these conditions.
Treating dry skin: Part 1 The first step to treating the winter dryness is to
remove all the left over skin. At the very minimum, get rid of all the dead skin that appears flaky, dry and
weathered. The best way to do this is through exfoliation. Use any method of exfoliation that works best for you and be consistent, the best results show themselves after some time. For a
more detailed explanation of how to exfoliate and the methods that can be used, read this article.
Doing away with dead skin is one of the best things you can do for your skin in general, because the
build-‐up clogs pores and causes breakouts.
Treating Dry Skin: Part 2
Now that we are working with fresh skin, the next step is to begin adding and retaining moisture. Try to use African American skin care products that work towards hydrating
dry skin. Clear Essence's My Natural Beauty Moisturizing Body Lotion with SPF 15 is perfect for this. Its main goal is to repair skin that has been damaged by over exposure to environmental elements. To make sure that all of the
moisture we're adding to the skin is not stripped by winds and other elements, add oil to your regimen.
Treating Dry Skin: Part 2 (continued) Apply a small amount after you've thoroughly rubbed in the lotion. This will act as a barrier between the environment and your skin, and can be especially
helpful if your skin becomes chapped easily. Clear Essence's Specialist Skincare Body Oil is a unique
oil that contains vitamins A and E for added skin health. Another reason we love this oil, is because it
can be added to a bath for full body moisture! Adding a small amount of this oil to your regimen is sure way
to put that healthy glow back into your skin.
