SNAPSHOTS-CHAMBER ACTIVITIES
Together with the Embassy of Sweden, the Chamber is currently running
a series of workshops for Communication Managers on the topic of
Brand Sweden and how “Made in Sweden” can bring value to your
company. The first workshop was held in BENGALURU on April 10, and
the second on June 5 in DELHI. Next will be in PUNE. These are great
opportunities for you to meet other Swedish companies and discuss
how, and if, the value proposition of Sweden can strengthen your
corporate identity and competiveness. Read more here about the
discussion in Bengaluru.
The Swedish business community has been present in PUNE for many
years. In the 50‟s, the former Prime Minister of India Mr. Jawaharlal
Nehru designated a big piece of land for the Swedish companies, that
today is known as Pune Marg and here you find companies such as
SKF, Atlas Copco, Sandvik and Alfa Laval. But several IT companies are
here as well, and in the development areas outside Pune, companies
like Tetra Pak and next in line, Ericsson, are establishing their
manufacturing units. Only three hours drive from Mumbai, the city has
much flexibility to offer.
On April 23rd the Chamber together with the Consulate General in
Mumbai organised a discussion in JW Marriot Hotel around the Business
Climate Survey 2014/15. Special guest of the day was the Commissioner
of Industries, Government of Maharashtra, Mr Surendra Bagde, who
with great passion, concrete suggestions and enthusiasm to discuss
gave the full-house audience (40+) a lot to think about. Parag Satpute,
Country Manager Sandvik and also on the Board of Directors of SCCI
presented the report and together with V. Srinivasan from Hoganas,
Ahmed Ebrahim, AQ Mechanical and Consul General Fredrika
Ornbrant engaged in a lively panel discussion moderated by Anna
Ferry, Counsellor Trade & Economic Affairs Embassy of Sweden in Delhi.
With the Commissioner present, ideas on local production adaptation
and valuation, increasing SME partnership and land acquisitions were
discussed at length.
Keep an eye on Maharashtra going forward, much is happening here!
Sneak-peak into a brand new factory On March 30, Scania opened up their doors for a special preview of their
new bus factory at Narasapura near BENGALURU in the 3rd
Manufacturing Leader‟s Forum. The team at Scania gave an informative
and illustrative sneak-peak into the brand new plant the day before the
official inauguration.
Participants from Ericsson, Swegon, AQ Mechanical, SKF and
Outokumpu took the opportunity to ask questions and learn from their
colleagues in the Scania team.
On March 31st, more than 1,000 guests joined MD Anders Grundstromer
and his team for the official inauguration. The Minister of Infrastructure,
Ms Anna Johansson Govt of Sweden and Minister of Transport, Mr Nitin
Gadkari, Govt of India were special guests on this day. The opening of
Scania‟s bio-fuel plant in Nagpur was announced and the company is
definitely making a foot print in India driving sustainable development of
alternative fuels. Know more.

SCA INAUGURATES ITS FIRST PRODUCTION FACILITY
IN INDIA
On 4th March, SCA inaugurated their
manufacturing facility for personal care and
tissue products in Ranjangaon, Pune. It produces
Libero baby diapers and Tork paper tissues for the
Indian market.
“We foresee considerable growth potential in India. A large
population and low penetration of hygiene products provides
the potential to expand our business. The investment is in line
with our strategy of strengthening SCA‟s presence in emerging
markets,” said Magnus Groth, President and CEO of SCA, at the
inauguration ceremony. He continues: “In India, we have
launched our biggest information and educational campaign
ever. In 2014, we reached 5000 hospitals and clinics and 1.2
million mothers and babies, providing them with parental
guidance. We also communicated the importance of
maintaining good hand hygiene to more than 8 million people.”
“SCA has shown deep commitment and has invested time and
effort to understand the Indian market and consumer needs as
we enter a new phase. With this new production facility, SCA
underlines its long-term strategy for our business in India,” says
Cecilia Edebo, Managing Director of SCA in India.

SECO BROADENS CARBIDE
CIRCLIP-GROOVING INSERT
LINEUP
Seco designed its new X4 polycrystalline
cubicboron nitride (PCBN) insert to bring
high stability and long tool life to circlip
grooving operations that involve heavy
interrupted cuts in hardened steels. The X4
PCBN insert features a strong solid-carbide
body structure, four cutting edges and a
highly stable clamp design that results in
reliable, cost-effective parts production. In
addition to its circlip grooving capabilities in
unstable conditions, the insert performs
accurate 6TPI threading operations. In testing, the X4 PCBN
outperformed similar competitive products, lasting up to three
times longer in unstable machining conditions. Available in right-
and left-handed versions, the X4 PCBN insert has an ISO standard
circlip width of 2.15 mm. Click here to know more.

NEPAL EARTHQUAKE RELIEF
SWEDISH BUSINESS COMMUNITY EXTENDS SUPPORT IN A TIME OF TRAGEDY
The earthquakes in Nepal on April 28 and May 12 caused well above 8,000 deaths and shattered lives for
many more in our neighbouring country.
Swedish Companies Ericsson and IKEA acting swiftly helped by restoring communication and providing
financial aid through UNICEF and Finnair flew a rescue and relief team and their material over for free.
Members of the Chamber could also through the Swedish Chamber of Commerce India partner in a
collaborative effort initiated by three organisations in Delhi. A hub for medical care was quickly set up in a
hospital in Raxaul, Bihar and from there medical teams have gone into Nepal and the remote villages to care
for injured, transport serious cases to the hospital for surgery and also to distribute supplies.
Volvo India joined hands by sending a bus to enable the travel and Rusta commendably did a collection
amongst the employees towards the relief effort. The bus was very helpful to carry a considerable amount of
relief supply and to move people in the night which would have been quite an impossible task otherwise.
To rebuild the lives of those that lost home and family will take time and in the wake of disasters like this other
social problems surface. Reports of child and women being trafficked in increasing measures have started to
come in and authorities in the border areas are keeping a watch.
We want to know how your company is involved in the relief and restorative efforts in Nepal. Write to us and
share your story and also let us know should you want to get involved further!
