BOARD OF DIRECTORS
By funding leading-edge grief
recovery programs in the Puget
Sound region, Safe Crossings
Foundation helps kids safely
navigate loss, rediscover their
joy, and emerge as emotionally
healthy and resilient members of
their families and communities.
1 in 10 children will lose a parent or sibling
before age 25. Such a death increases
the risks of alcohol and substance abuse,
anti-social behaviors, and high risk-taking
activities, particularly for teens.
Until the 1980s, few programs existed to
assist grieving children. Founded in 1989,
Safe Crossings Foundation collaborated
with Providence Hospice of Seattle to
address this need by creating the Safe
Crossings Program.
Today your contribution to Safe Crossings
Foundation supports specialized
counseling, art therapy, Camp ErinTM -
King County and other programs, all
designed to help thousands of young
people and families. In February 2015, we
sponsored the fi rst Northwest Conference
on Childhood Grief for professionals in
the fi eld. Our fi fth conference is being
held March 26, 2019.
Most of us experience grief in our lives,
and how we deal with it determines our
relationships with others and with the
outside world. One teen told us recently,
“Grieving is like wearing a big, heavy coat
all the time, and Safe Crossings allows you
to remove that big, heavy coat, look up at
the sunshine and remember the good times.
Today I laugh a lot, and I love people, and
I’ve learned to help and listen to others.”
