Abstinence:

Catholics who have celebrated their 14th birthday are bound to abstain from meat on Ash Wednesdays, Good Friday and all Fridays in Lent. Fasting:

Catholics who have celebrated their 18th birthday, in addition to abstaining from meat, should fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. On those days they should eat only one full meal. Smaller quantities of food may be taken at two other meals, but no food should be consumed at other time during those two days. The obligation of fasting ceases with the celebration of one’s 59th birthday. Prayer:

We are encouraged to devote more time to prayer and scripture reading during Lent. The Sacrament of Reconciliation prepares our hearts to fully join in celebrating Christ’s resurrection.

Lent Week One Weekend of February 21-22

St. Ben’s Community Meal

We believe in the innate dignity of all people. We recognize that God is present and active in every situation and person. All who participate in the Meal–guests, sponsors, volunteers, and staff–are people with gifts and talents, needs and weaknesses. We share a nutritious meal in a setting of hospitality and safety. We commit ourselves to addressing not only the effects, but the root causes of hunger and poverty. Please help by donating: blankets; brown bags (lunch-sized); adult-sized new socks and under-wear; jackets; caps; gloves; fruit/vegetables (#10 cans); grocery bags (plastic or paper); hygiene products (soap, shampoo, deodorant, toothpaste, tooth brushes, hand/body lotion, razors, sanitary pads); margarine (3-5 lb tubs); paper products (toilet paper, paper towels, napkins); laundry soap & dish soap; and large bottles of hand sanitizer. All would be greatly appreciated.

NOTE: Please bring your offerings to Weekend Masses and place them in the gathering space.

St. Vincent de Paul St. Vincent de Paul passionately serves both individuals and families. Inspired by Christ, Vincentians strive to meet the needs of peo-ple in the community by building a productive relationship with those they serve through their home visits and personal interac-tions. Profits from the store and donations from you, the community, help St. Vincent de Paul in its mission: neighbor helping neigh-bor. You can donate this weekend by bringing gently used clothing and clean household items to church. The St. Vincent de Paul truck will be available in the parking lot to receive your donation.

Lent Week Six Weekend of March 28-29

House of Peace Mission Inspired from scripture, Matthew 25:31, the House of Peace has been serving the needy in the heart of Milwaukee’s Central City since 1968. The need is great! During this time it has been a beacon of hope for thousands of individuals who were without food or cloth-ing. It has been there to comfort those in despair and to offer help to those who had nowhere else to turn. Please help by donating diapers; wipes; personal hygiene products (soap, shampoo, deodorant, toothpaste, tooth brushes, hand/body lotion, razors, sanitary pads); gently used clothing; canned, bagged or boxed food items; new underwear and new socks of all sizes--men, ladies & children; laun-dry soap. All would be greatly appreciated.
