The First Teacher’s Workshop of EURO4SCIENCE was held in April 2015, in Bulgaria, hosted by 2nd Secondary School, Sofia

The team of scientists from the University of Aveiro, Portugal presented the Forensic Science Toolbox to the team of 15 teachers who learnt how to use forensic science

cases to illustrate the scientific content to their classes.

The First Teacher’s Workshop of EURO4SCIENCE in Bulgaria, 2nd Secondary School, Sofia

It was quite new and very interesting for our school team.

The article about the First Teacher’s Workshop of EURO4SCIENCE in Sofia was published in a Bulgarian newspaper and in our school website http://www.2ro-sou-bg.com/category/news/page/8/

Testing of the Forensic Science Toolbox started successfully after a beneficial meeting with experts from

Know and Can Association, Sofia

A question of discussion are the aims, the procedures and the deadlines of the

project implementation in 2-nd Secondary School –

December, 2015.

On 11th December 2015 on the premises of the school the crime scene was recreated and a "CSI team" of teachers and students

demonstrated techniques of gathering evidences

EURO4SCIENCEStudy your Fingerprints

The lesson started with a presentation about the history of forensic science and fingerprinting as a scientific method for identifying criminals.

We also worked in a team. Here a teacher is explaining how the students have to put their fingers onto the ink pad and replace them on

a paper, so they could study their patterns.

Students showing great deal of enthusiasm during the activity

Students were really curious to find out which are their pattern type /ARCHES, WHORLS or LOOPS/. Finally we did a research about the

percentage of students who are in one of the three types.

EUROSCIENCEIS THIS REALLY BLOOD?

BLOOD TYPING ANALYSIS

Students revealed the blood presence and the

blood groups of the victim and the suspects

EURO4SCIENCE STUDY POLYMERS, TEXTILE FIBRES ON THE

CRIME SCENE

Fibres are among the most commonly found pieces of trace evidence at crime scenes. That's why students were surprised when they knew how easily a simple piece of cloth can be identified as synthetic or natural.

You need only a microscope.

Students quickly found out that synthetic fibers smell as chemical and that they continue to

burn after a flame is removed.

Students' astonishment was shown through these fascinating photos taken by their mobile phones.

INVISIBLE INK

Hidden messages... how interesting it is to use just a lemon juice and write something on a piece of paper and nobody can see it. Lemon juice - invisible for the naked eye become visible under an ultraviolet light /light range of 100 nm to 400 nm/.

Review and Analysis

PARTICIPANTS - 15 TEACHERS and 263 STUDENTS

ACTIVITIES - APPEALING TO MOST OF THE STUDENTS

HANDS-ON APPROACH - ATTRACTING EVEN UNDERACHIEVERS

LEARNING WILL TURN INTO A FASCINATING PROCESS

Thank you for attention!
