Oh, look. Here we are at Larry th
Lipids house. Larry is kind of like me. He imade of carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen, and i
full of energy. But he has WAY moreHI
CALVIN!!!!!! HOW ARE YOU DOING???? IM SO
EXCITED YOU CAME ON MY DAY OFF!!!! OH
AND WHO IS THIS??? IM SO EXCITED TO
MEET YOU!!!! WELCOME TO MY HOUSE!!! IM
PRETTY NEW HERE, YOU KNOW. UNTIL

OLIVE OIL! BUT THEN, I CAME HERE!!!! ITS
SO NICE HERE, DONT YOU THINK??? OTHER
LIPIDS LIKE ME CAN BE FOUND IN FATTYAND OILY FOODS, LIKE OLIVE OIL AND
BUTTER!! IF A FATTY OR OILY FOOD IS A
LIQUID, IT IS PROBABLY AN UNSATURATED
FAT, AND IF IT IS SOLID, IT IS PROBABLY
SATURATED!!! UNSATURATED FATS LIKE

BORING SCIENTIFIC NOTE
Nutriville is not just afictional place in a story.
It is a real place, and it is
very close to you right
now: inside you. You can
eat all of the foodsmentioned in the book to
get those nutrients. You
are the factory. And to
show you I know what Iam talking about, we will
tell you some facts about
molecules and nutrients.

BORING SCIENTIFIC NOTE
cont.
Polymers are very large molecules. The
are made of smaller molecules calle
monomers. Nucleotides are an example o
monomers. DNA and RNA are made o
nucleotides. They are polymers.
A monomer. A polymer. DNA.

BORING SCIENTIFIC NOTE
cont.
A calorie is the energy necessary to heat one
gram of water one degree Celsius (or
Kelvin). One gram of carbohydrates gives
your factory about 4000 calories, which is
equal to four Calories (notice the uppercaseC). About 50% of your calories every day
should come from carbohydrates. Another
type of carbohydrate is cellulose, which
makes up the cell walls of plants and isfound in paper and film. No more than 30%
of your daily calories should come from
lipids, and no more than 35% should come
from proteins.Lipids Carbohydrates Proteins

So the next time you eat a bowl of whole wheat pasta with butter, pasta sauce, andparmesan cheese with a glass of milk,
think about Calvin and his friends.Think about how they are giving
energy and resources to the
factory in your body. Think about
how many calories your body is
getting from each nutrient. And wave. They will be watching.
