March is sloshing by and we’re heading in to April. Hopefully we’ll see some nice
weather in April as we’ve had to reschedule our visit to WPAFB Museum because of a
late March snow. Our visit to Dayton has been rescheduled to June 16th. I’m keeping
my fingers crossed it will not snow that day.
Looking forward to our next event, we’ll meet at Russ Jeffrey’s home on Dean Road
for a renewal of our section’s tech session. There is still time to sign up by visiting our
Facebook page or by going to the following link:
https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1OH4Lj7FR5yPX7bvAyOI-9pjgCIm-w__6b48To6nmmLI/edit
Our tech session will give you the opportunity to get interior repair, alloy wheel refin-
ishing and straightening, minor dent repair, full inside and outside detailing and re-
freshing hazy headlight lenses. We also expect a presentation by ClearBra, a clear
overlay to protect the front of your car from rock chips and insects. All vendors will
offer group discounted prices and most work should be completed the same day. A
small admission will be charged to defray the cost of lunch which will be provided.
Our next event will follow in two weeks. In our host Dan Blaney’s own words: “Spring
Road Trip, April 14th, 2018. Visit Newton County Treasures: Fair Oaks Dairy, lunch,
view wild buffalo and baby calves at The Nature Conservatory and a World Class
Snowmobile Museum in Morocco, IN. Should be a fun trip.” More info inside.
With the return of spring will come the start of Cars and Coffee on the fourth Saturday
of every month at Gateway Classic Cars, 4400 W 86th Street from 9am - noon. It’s
always fun to see cars people bring along with Gateway’s inventory of classic cars for
sale. It’s a great way to see other vehicles and meet local car enthusiasts.
With the tech session and trip to Newton County a new season of events will begin for
our Indy 500 Section. I hope many members will be able to participate and get to
know and enjoy spending time with other members. Our treasurer, Dave Weaver, has
been working hard to update our club’s webpages at the national mbca.org website.

NEWS
Then one day I laced up my New Balance sneakers, left my
kitchen and walked across Central Park, to my old alma mater,
to the George Washington Bridge. I carried next to nothing, just
a paperback, maps, and some underwear. Fort Lee for lunch
down to Secaucus, rising through West Orange. I crossed New
Jersey in seven days, singing with my earphones, writing in my
notebook. I was Johnny Appleseed, Walt Whitman. After the
pinnacle, fifty-three paces a minute, seventeen miles a day,
forty excursions, I reached the Pacific.
SARA’S NOTES
Recently, Ken and I saw one of our favorite singers of all time at the Palladium in Carmel, Art Garfunkel. We like the music of Simon & Garfunkel so much that we went to Columbus, Ohio about 10 years ago on a weeknight to see their Old Friends Tour. I was unaware that Art had recently published a memoir, What is it all but Luminous? And it’s a travel book! In his 20’s (he’s now 77), Art walked across America in 40 separate segments. He did the same from Ireland to Istanbul – two weeks at a time. He writes very poetically and this is a snippet about his U.S. journey:
These late February days have been rainy and gloomy, but walking past the spring flower display at Kroger today reminded me that it’s only a few weeks until my favorite season of the year. I’m happy that my Valentine flowers still look great on our dining room table. Dave Weaver, our club treasurer, surprised the women who attended the Valentine Brunch with beautiful flowers to take home and en-joy. Thank you, Dave!
Ever since I decided to retire at the end of this semester I’ve been reading “travel books”. I think it’s because Ken and I will be able to take more road trips soon. One I enjoyed recently was Travels With Ted and Ned, by Rev. Theodore Hesburgh. It’s the story of Fr. Ted and his best friend and fellow priest who retired at 70 after 35 years in administration at Notre Dame, and drive an RV all over the United States. They then serve as chaplains on the Q. E. II and go all over the world. Great stories about the places they visit and the people they meet. I truly admire their sense of adventure and their stamina. Fr. Ted died in 2015 at the age of 97. His picture was put on a U.S. postage stamp recently, celebrating his numerous accomplishments.
I don’t plan to imitate these peregrinations, but I want to see more of our great land – hopefully by car and possibly in our red Mercedes
cabriolet.

VALENTINE’S DAY BRUNCH
Nineteen members and guests got together at George's Neighborhood Grill on an icy day in Indy for our annual Valentine's Day Brunch. A great time was had by all and Dave Weaver, our treasurer, won our 50-50 raffle. Dave's guests and potential new members, David and Pam Sidery were also win-ners in our raffle, winning a 1:18 scale diecast of a 300SL Gullwing donated by Roye Gaha. Our offi-cial section photographer, Dave Swenby (boy, we've got a lot of Dave's!) took many pictures!
