These are interactive activities in which students will work through a project or scenario, i.e. (creating a medical record for a new patient or preparing and maintaining an appointment book)

Once completed with the activity you will submit a screen shot of the final page and submit for credit

Click on the unit for that week. Activity assignment icons are located in center of page. Click on the assessment – instructions provided. Follow directions in the book and use Evolve website. Turn into drop box. Each assessment averages between 30-60 min.

If you already received your study guide follow these steps -Go to http://evolve.elsevier.com/enroll. You will be brought to the page below. Click here:

Complete all the necessary information on the next screen as shown below (note: use Kaplan University Information OR choose “not affiliated with an institution”). Be sure to use your own address or the address of the University and click Continue.

You now have access to the Virtual Medical Office. This next page will provide you with your username and the password you selected. Keep this information in a safe place. I suggest you write it directly into the cover of your VMO study guide. Click on Get Started to enter your online resource that will take you to the Virtual Medical Office.

Then you will need to use the universal username of scode3

and password spare1234 to access VMO and the online study guide until

you receive your own study guide and can create your account.

Go to: Go to: http://evolve.elsevier.com and and click on Student Site. click on Student Site.

It will bring you to this log in screen. Enter scode3 (username) and spare1234 (password) – MUST be exact, case sensitive, click login

On this page, you will click on Simulations-VMO (second dropdown)

You will now see blue text for the Kinn’s Medical Assistant. Click on that link.

You will be taken to the course screen, where you will see the words Start this course at the beginning. Click on these words:

On this page, you will click on the Simulations VMO link

On this page, you will click on Virtual Medical Office Simulation. Note: You may need to hold down the CTRL button while you click on the words

This is the opening shot of the program. It plays some pretty music while loading.

Then you will see the following frame appear: (after the first time you can click on Skip Intro).

Type your name into the Mountain View Clinic. Then click Start Simulation.

Now you have entered the Virtual Medical Office. From this point, you will follow the directions in the VMO study guide for entering the Reception, Exam Room, Laboratory, Billing and Coding, Office Manager, and Check Out.  Note: be sure to log out. Bookmark http://evolve.elsevier.com/student to easily log in and access your Virtual Medical Office in the future. It will bring you to the login page, where you will need to use your username and password. Once you login, it will bring you to the pages described above.

Do not type your responses in the online study guide. You must type answers in a word doc and submit via the Dropbox in the course.

Students must submit each VMO activity separately. They cannot combined and submitted in one basket.
