OUR LADY OF MERCY PARISH MISSION STATEMENT Our Lady of Mercy Parish is a Catholic community that worships God the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, celebrating Mass, proclaiming the Gospel Message and uniting in prayer. We strive to welcome all and to educate ourselves and others in the Good News of Jesus Christ. We support one another in times of joy and sadness and attempt to serve each other by reaching out to those in need in our community and beyond. We are imperfect people on a journey. Our goal is that the life of each person leads to the Lord.
LET US PRAY In your love and kindness please pray for the sick of our parish, especially: Salvatore Macagnone, Joseph Mead, and for the prayer requests listed in the book of intentions in the Vestibule. Please also remember the deceased of our parish and their families, especially: Theresa Klausner, Vita Lucania, Frank Fratello, James Vasconcellos, and John Blasko. Please join with us in praying one OUR FATHER per day for all those who have no one to pray for them. THE SANCTUARY LAMPS IN CHURCH burn this week in memory of Oscar Eduardo Rodriguez, and for Special Intentions. THE SANCTUARY LAMP IN THE CHAPEL burns this week for People of the Parish.
If you would like more information about reserving a Sanctuary Lamp in memory of a loved one or for a Special Intention, please call the rectory office at 201-391-5315.

MSGR. TURRO HOMILY
My dear friends, It is a law of life—namely this: we like to be near to those we love and conversely, far removed from those we dislike. And so it is with God. His powerful love for us drove Him to draw ever closer to us. That is what the Eucharist is: God drawing near and arriving in the life of each one of us whom he passionately loves. How wrong and foolish it is for anyone of us to feel unloved. God has a warm, wild love for each one of us, and the Eucharist is the dominant proof of that love.

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ, Today we hear the beautiful and familiar gospel of the “Prodigal Son,” but it is probably better described as the story of the “Merciful Father,” for he forgives the outrageous foolishness and self-centeredness of his younger son as well as the glaring pride of his older son. In both cases he must show them that his love and their unity is not dependent on any of their individ-ual virtues or even their sins! Of course, this is a parable which is about Christ and His key message: He came to reconcile the world to God through the forgiveness of sins. I believe so many are doubtful about Jesus Christ not so much because of issues of belief, but rather, be-cause they feel unworthy of Christ and do not believe His love is bigger than their sins. How will our children (and their parents as well!) hear and really assimilate this “Good News” of Jesus Christ if there is no one to tell them, and more, to witness to their own experience and conviction of this fact? At all the Masses this weekend, our new Director of Religious Education, Evelyn Paglieri, will introduce her-self and speak of our programs. There will be a chance to meet her, as we have refreshments after all the Masses. Welcome Evelyn and thank you for your zeal to share our faith with the young! There is always the need for more “workers in the vine-yard” to bring young people into the faith. While we use the word, “volunteers,” it is rather a “ministry” to the young which all of us must share; it is the most urgent task of every believer. It is not enough to say “I be-lieve” if the desire to share it does not burn within me! So please prayerfully examine your heart, not about “if,” but about “how,” I will participate in this ministry! I hope many will feel inspired to teach, or to assist as aides, or with other organizational tasks; others will take up a ministry of prayer for the children and the catechists; others will come up with other ideas! Please reach out to Evelyn (evelyn.paglieri@urolm.org) right away to see in what way, big or small, you can share your faith with our young! Speaking of the “Mercy of the Father,” we will celebrate our patronal Feast of Our Lady of Mercy beginning with 8:30am Mass on Friday September 20, followed by 24 hours of Eucharistic Adoration, including an hour that evening with Praise and Worship music, and on Sun-day, September 22, a bi-lingual Mass at 12:30pm out-doors in the courtyard garden, followed by a big picnic on the lawn!. Check the bulletin for more information and plan to be there! God bless you all!

N.I.C.E. Needs In Catholic Education STARTING ON SEPTEMBER 22 AT 11:00 AM As Baptized members of the Catholic Faith, it is every-one’s right to participate in the Mass as well as all the Sacraments, Signs and Symbols of the Church. Fami-lies come to Mass to teach their children about God’s Word, to worship and to celebrate together. Some-times with small children this can be difficult even un-der the best of circumstances. Raising a child with special needs presents additional challenges. A pro-gram was started here at Our Lady of Mercy, to wel-come these children and their families to an opportuni-ty to help enrich their family faith life and to fully partici-pate in the gift of the Mass. Through this program, Needs In Catholic Education, families experience the reality of what they thought was once impossible; see-ing their children receive their First Penance, First Eu-charist and Confirmation. Our program, Liturgy of the Word with Special Needs, is scheduled on Sunday, during the 11:00 AM Mass. After our Opening Pray-er, families are quietly escorted to an area where the Word is shared in music, story and simple craft. The group returns before the Offertory in order to continue in the participation of the Mass. If you have an interest in this program for your family or you would like to be part of the volunteer staff, please call Amy Ballanco at 201-674-5567 OR email at olmnice-families@gmail.com
