Activity

Walk-A-Thon Pledges

Activity

Leanne’s sponsors will pay $10 regardless of how far she walks

Gilberto’s sponsors will pay $2 per kilometer

Alana’s sponsors will make a $5 donation, plus $0.50 per kilometer

Activity

The Task:Tables! Graphs! Equations!

Make a table for each student’s pledge plan, from 0 to 12 kilometers.

Graph the three pledge plans on the same coordinate axes.

Write an equation for each pledge plan.

Activity

The Questions:1. What rate of change for each pledge plan do you

observe in the table? How does this pattern appear in the graph? In the equation?

2. Suppose each student walks 8 kilometers in the walkathon. How much money does each sponsor owe?

3. On which graph does the point (12,11) lie? Mark it red. What information does this point represent?

4. In Alana’s plan, how is the fixed $5 donation represented in: The table? The graph? The equation?

Activity

With your group members, work together to complete the group task and answer the questions.

Each student must have his own graph, table, equation, and answers to questions recorded on their graph paper before making the group poster.

Activity

The Final Product:TEAM POSTER silent presentation

After your team has been approved by your teacher, display your findings on a huge poster. Remember your poster needs to SPEAK for itself! Poster must be clean and presentable!
