Pursuit of

God

Pursue- To chase after someone or something.

- To follow and try to catch or capture

(someone or something).

- To engage in.

Luke 10:38-4238 As Jesus and the disciples continued on their way to Jerusalem, they came to a certain village where a woman named Martha welcomed him into her home. 39 her sister, Mary, sat at the lord’s feet, listening to what he taught.

Luke 10:38-4240 But Martha was distracted by the big dinner she was preparing. She came to Jesus and said, “Lord, doesn’t it seem unfair to you that my sister just sits here while I do all the work? Tell her to come and help me.”

Luke 10:38-4241 But the Lord said to her, “My dear Martha, you are worried and upset over all these details! 42 There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.”

Hospitable

homemaker

Had a strong desire

listen and when

to act.

WEAKNESSES

& MISTAKES

Was overly

concerned w/

details

Expected others to

agree w/ her

priorities

Limited Jesus’

power to this life.

MARTHA MARYLESSONS

FROM

HER LIFE

- There is a proper

time to listen to

Jesus and a proper

time to work for him

- Busyness of

serving God can

become a barrier

to knowing him

personally.

Are you so busy doing

things in this world that

you’re not spending any

time with Jesus?

What kind of hospitality

does Jesus receive in your

life?

Are you busy planning &

running your life that you

neglect precious time w/ Him?

Or do you respond to Him by

listening to his Word, then

finding ways to worship Him

with your life?

Do not let your service

become self-serving.

Service to Christ can

degenerate into mere

busywork that is totally devoid

of devotion to God.

It is the enemy's way to make us

busy with our lives and with our

own pursuits so that we will not

have time to seek God. If we're

not making the habit of seeking

God, little by little, we're stepping

away in the presence of God.

We're doing things in our own

knowledge, in our own ways, in

our own perspectives that's why

the burden/yoke becomes to

hard for us to bear. -Ministry,

work, family, relationships,

finances, health.

Come to Me, all you who labor

and are heavy laden, and I will

give you rest. Take My yoke

upon you and learn from Me, for I

am gentle and lowly in heart,

and you will find rest for your

souls. For My yoke is easy and

My burden is light.” Matt 11:28-30

THE TRUTH

The yoke,man's burden

comes as a result of the

things we do ok our own

strength, our own plans,

our own wisdom.

The yoke is destroyed

because of the anointing-

and the anointing comes

in the presence of God.

Isaiah 10:27

Jesus is inviting us to

come to him in our daily

lives. He wants us to

pursue Him first before

anything/anyone else.

Acronyms on how we can

pursue God in a right way:

DIGONG

DEVOTION

Martin Luther understood the

importance of time spent with God.

The more he had to do in a day,

the more time he spent in prayer.

He said, “I have so much to do that

I must spend the first 3 hours of

each day in prayer.”

INTIMACY

John 15:55 Without him we can do nothing

The life we live, we live thru Christ,

living out through us. Everything

we do is based on Christ in us, and

in Christ in us is based on time

spent with him.

GOAL

To know God and make him

known.

OBEDIENCE

John 14:15 15"IF YOU LOVE ME, YOU WILL DO WHAT I

COMMAND.”

NURTURE

Many of us don't want to bother

God too often with our problems

and worries so we store up

problems and don't bother God

unless we have crisis. He sets it up

so we are in constant need of him-

so that we can be in a constant

fellowship with him.

GO

Therefore go and make disciples

of all nations, baptizing them in

the name of the Father and of the

Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and

teaching them to obey everything

I have commanded you. And

surely I am with you always, to the

very end of the age.

Matt 28:19-20

When we seek God, all other

things will come.

Any time we seek a

characteristic or ideals, we get

out of balance and a truth

replaces THE TRUTH. All balance

is rooted in HIM.

Most people only come to God

in crisis situation, when they

FEEL THE URGENCY.

The truth is, every moment

leaves us completely helpless

without Him.

CONCLUSION

God is calling us to Himself. More

than anything else he wants what

every child wants from their

parent. He wants what every wife

wants from her husband. He wants

what every lover wants from his

love- TIME. He wants to spend time

with you,

He wants your love.

The heart of God beats to spend

time with us. His great desire is to

have n intimate relationship with

us. God is more interested in us

doing something WITH HIM, than

doing something FOR HIM.

Imagination is not enough.

Doctrine is not enough. Preaching

is not enough. God must be

experienced, gazed upon,

enjoyed. God meant for us to

experience him in a personal way

so that we can also share Him in a

personal way.
