WHAT IS SERVICE LEARNING ?

Service-learning is a method of teaching, learning and reflecting, frequently youth service in the community. As a teaching method, it falls under the philosophy of experiential education.

Service Learning integrates meaningful community service with instruction and reflection, to:Enrich the learning experience Teach civic responsibility Encourage lifelong civic engagement Strengthen communities for the common

good

Service learning is a method by which students or participants learn and develop through active participation in thoughtfully organized service that is conducted in and meets the needs of a community

WHAT HAPPENED ON MARCH 8TH?

All 10th grade Access students participated in a Service Learning Day in their towns and villages: They helped children clean, paint and

decorate their kindergartensThey taught English to younger studentsThey designed and hung materials in

English in one of the younger students’ classrooms

They added color to their own school by drawing and painting the walls, fences, and benches
