Sightings from the World Renowned Furniture Exhibition – Salone del Mobile
Milano 2016
The Milan International Furniture Exhibition, famously known as The Salone, has given Milan its
name as the global capital of design since its foundation in 1961. This prestigious annual event
is a must-see for many industry players as it attracts numerous top designers and megabrands
to showcase the best of furniture design, innovation, interiors and intelligent solutions.
This year, The Salone is at its 55th edition. With an overwhelming display of unique products,
this major exhibition serves as the perfect opportunity to spot this year’s upcoming trends. Here
is what we found significant during our walk in The Salone:
1. Pastel, warm & neutral colours
Since the 1980s, this family of soft milky colours have stood its fame throughout the
years as other shades fall out of trend. Exhibition spaces were seen adorned with warm
and neutral pastel colours, with Rose Quartz and Serenity tones being the most
abundant.

2. The show-stopping metal – Rose Gold
We saw an increasing use of Rose Gold in most furniture lately. This warm and alluring
metallic is set to add a touch of glamour and lustre to any environment.

3. Classic rock
It may seem like we are suggesting something from the music industry, but we are
talking about the hottest material of the year! Marble furniture had stolen the limelight in
The Salone 2016 with its availability in quirky tints like mossy green, smoky black, you
name it!
4. Retro reboot
With the colours and material mentioned above, this post has been a blast from the past
so far. And this points us to furniture styles from the 1970’s. In this trade show, the past
and the present coexist tastefully with designs showing a perfect balance between
modern and vintage.

Just when we thought we saw it all, we were further amazed by a number of
unconventional displays. As if trying to break boundaries, nothing caught our eyes like
these peculiar works of art.
