Common Name

• Known commonly as sinusitis.

• An inflammation or swelling of the tissue lining the sinuses.

• Sinuses normally filled with air but when become blocked and filled with fluid, bacteria, fungi, viruses can grow and cause an infection.

Type of Organism that Causes the Disease(Organism)

• Base on recent theories, fungus may have a significant role in the development of sinus infection, and so anti-fungal treatments have been used on a testing basis.

Transmission

• For adults, the most contributing factors will be infection to wounds and smoking.

• For children, the contributing factors include allergies, illness from other children at school, and smoke in the environment.

• Not contagious.

Symptoms• Facial pain/pressure.

• Nasal stuffiness. Loss of smell. Cough.

• Fever.

• Bad breath.

• Fatigue

• Dental pain.

Treatment• Early treatment to allergic sinusitis in order

to prevent secondary bacterial sinus infections.

• Antibiotic therapy.

• Nasal surgery to those who don’t experience sufficient relief from medication.

Prevention

• Prevent contact with smoking or second hand smoke.

• Hygiene.
