Specialist HighSkills Major (SHSM)A SHSM is aministry-approvedspecialized program thatoffers students theopportunity to focus on aspecialized area such asConstruction orHospitality and Tourismwhile working towardstheir OSSD. Additionaltraining and certificatesprovided include FirstAid, CPR, WHMIS,SmartServe, and SafeFood Handler orHoisting and Riggingand ConfinedSpaces. The programalso assists withstudents transitioninginto apprenticeship,college or theworkplace.

Distinctive programs depending on needs:  MID SHSM Credit:Credit based courses with a focus on Hospitality and Tourism. MID Credit:  Credit based courses.  All credit based courses aresupplemented with after school and summer school recoverycourses. Credit based courses require more breakdown andrequire longer time to complete therefore students are providedextra years to complete all work.  MID ESAC: 4 yr. mixedcourses, followed by School to Work Transition. PH MID: 7 yr.ESAC, where senior students participate in Co-op BusinessVentures. INTEGRATED DD: 7 yr. ESAC involving 1 yr. supportedco-op. DD: Certificate of Achievement that involves supportedexperiential community initiatives.

Skills For Your FutureWe offer a unique timetable whereyou can spend half a dayin employability skills and half a dayin academic studies building yourliteracy and numeracy skills.  OurEmployability Skills include shops in:Culinary Arts, Baking, RestaurantService, Small Engines, AutoDetailing, Health Care, Computer Technology, Landscape andMasonry, Green Industries, Drywall / Painting / RoofingConstruction, Carpentry, and in-school Pathways. We also offerthe Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) in Construction withother secondary schools in our area and Hospitality with StephenLeacock C.I.  Our goal is for every student to realize their fullpotential.
