What in the World is Eczema?!

• A condition that causes the skin to become scaly, dry, and thick when irritated.

• Also called dermatitis

• A common skin condition

Types of Eczema

• Atopic- the most common

• Contact- interaction with substances

• Dyshidrotic- mainly on the hands

• Neurodermatitis- the irritation of ends of nerves

• Nummular- appear after a skin injury

• Occupational- caused by a person’s workplace

Do I have Eczema?

• Diagnosed by a doctor

• Most always itchy

• Appear dry, scaly, and thickend

• Seen on wrist, face, back of knees, hands and/or feet.

How do I make it go away?!

• Use moisturizers to keep skin moist.

• Avoid areas that would irritate your skin

• Avoid sudden changes in the environment

• Reduce stress

• 3% of people do not have eczema by the age of 10

Cool Stuff! ;P

• Common in the summer

• It comes slowly

• “You look two toned when you have your “flare ups”.”

• 20% of infants have atopic eczema
