SPRING FESTIVAL
11-14 APRIL 2012
The annual Spring Festival of the composition department in The Hague promises to be
an extraordinary event. In five days, dozens of new student compositions will be per-
formed. This varies from purely electronic pieces to work for ensemble, performances and
music theatre works. The festival theme this year is Arte Pauvere, an art movement of the
last century where artworks were created using everyday objects. Besides the large
amount of student works we also included the results of workshops and collaborations
with the Academy and the Ligeti scenographers of the theatre of Amsterdam.
The full programme and more background information can be found on
www.springfestival.nu.

JAZZ CD RELEASE PARTY AT THEATER ZEEBELT
15 APRIL 2012, 20:30PM
The Eef van Breen Group will release its new album ‘Changing Scenes’ during a party on
Saturday, 14 April at Theater Zeebelt in The Hague. The party will feature a concert with
an all-star team of actors, dancers and a choir. Trumpeter, singer-songwriter, composer
and arranger Eef van Breen (1978) is one of the biggest personalities on the Dutch jazz
scene of the moment. He captures audiences with his lyrical trumpet phrases and virtuo-
so scat solos. On his new album Eef plays around with changing contexts. The listener
imagines that he’s a character in a film. Dying footsteps, slamming doors, breaking glass
and ticking clocks become a three-dimensional set with carefully wrought compositions.
To be enveloped by a colorful, visual experience without seeing.
Tickets cost € 15 (student discounts apply) and can be purchased through Ticketscript or
through Theater Zeebelt.

DID YOU KNOW?
Some fun facts about the Dutch’
best friend…
The first human powered land
vehicle was constructed by Gio-
vanni Fontana in 1418.
The term "bicycle" first entered
into popular usage in France in
the 1860s.
The longest "tandem" bike ever
built was almost 67 feet long
and could seat 35.
The smallest adult bicycle ever
created had wheels made from
silver dollars.
There are roughly one billion
bicycles in the world (about
twice as many as motor vehi-
cles).
The slow cycling record was set
by Tsugunobu Mitsuishi of Ja-
pan in 1965 when he stayed
stationary for 5 hours, 25
minutes.
The fastest speed ever recorded
