Other networks are even stronger!

• For job applications, LinkedIn is driving almost nine times

more applications than Facebook and three times more than

Twitter

• Twitter drives almost twice as many job views per job as

Facebook and three times more applications per job

• A Twitter follower is almost 3 times more likely to apply to a

job posting than a LinkedIn connection and 8 times more

likely to apply than a Facebook fan

• Facebook is the network least connected to by recruiters, with

only 10% using it in combination with LinkedIn for recruiting

More Apps / Resources

• HirePlug: Adds “we are hiring” tab to your

Company Facebook page

• Unrabble: Asks applicants to provide

references to substantiate claims and

achievements

candidates

• Jobvite.com: Recruiting platform for the social

Communicate Internally

Lesser-known one to watch: Quora

• Quora aggregates questions

and answers to topics and

allows users to collaborate

on them by editing questions

and suggesting edits to other

users' answers

• Do I need to use it? If you

want to find quick answers to

questions on a VAST variety

of topics, test it out, you’ll

like it!

• Great opportunity to

research candidates,

establish expertise, talk with

peers

LinkedIn operates the world’s largest

professional network on the Internet with

more than 120 million members in over

200 countries and territories

Who’s there? • Members grew to 115.8 million, an increase of 61%

from the second quarter of 2010

• 50% of users are the decision makers at their

company

• 1.3 million small business owners on LinkedIn

• 12 million small business professionals

• 5.5 million high tech managers

• More than 6.5 million students and 9 million recent

college grads

• Do not allow it to be a dull, one dimensional

view of who you are

• LinkedIn is more than an online resume

• What you do is way beyond your resume

• Use accomplishments that can be measured

• Get recommendations and introductions

• For Companies, have a profile with job

opportunities

Optimize your LinkedIn profile

• First, look at what you

have accomplished

• Differentiate: what

have you done to set

yourself apart?

• How have you done

the job better than

anyone else?

• What problems did

you solve?

• Show your passion!

Establish your expertise: Answers

•Add people you meet in meetings, trade shows,

other events

• Once you’ve met, stay connected

• Get to know them better, be prepared for next

conversation

• Encourage them to follow your company

• Post personal and company status updates

Stay Connected

Do your homework

Tips for Social Job Seekers

• Use your privacy settings and lists wisely!

• Facebook: Post “notes” – stay in newsfeeds

longer (about your job search, skills, etc)

• Twitter: Follow companies and job feeds, see

job sites that aggregate Twitter feeds (twitjobsearch.com, etc)

• LinkedIn: Use a profile image that is consistent

and memorable, highlight measurable

achievements and promote yourself

• Communicate with candidates across platforms

• Make it personal – who is doing your updates?

• Keep it real – go beyond PR, consider employee

stories

• Deliver exclusivity – followers/fans should get more

than company site posts

• Add value – make posts count. What’s workplace

like?

• Stay ahead of the curve – platform, channels

Tips for recruiting via social media

For future consideration…

• What is the appropriate level of openness? Should you restrict

what employees and managers say?

• How much blurring of public and private life is too much?

• How can the company prevent abuse of social media?

Employees and managers need to know that there will be

serious consequences for any misuse of this potentially

combustible form of communication.

• How do you communicate what Company information is

confidential and what is public?
