Brendan Hurley, Senior Vice President of Marketing & Communications,
Goodwill of Greater Washington
…Suzanne Plopper, for instance, is trying to raise $72,000 to help send 900 girls to school in Burkina Faso over the next three years. . .
As of Tuesday, 754 people had donated $21,309 to Ms. Plopper’s cause, putting it in second place among the organizations working internationally in the Parade version of the contest.

The American Cancer Society has had success in raising real money with virtual walkathons in Second Life. . . .
A few hundred avatars did that walk in 2005, raising $5,000. This year’s walk has raised $82,000 at a cost of $4,200 — and it will not take place until the end of next month.
