Papers and Assignments: All papers will be typed double spaced and in 12 point font (Times New Roman). Paper headings will be as followed in the upper left hand corner.

Your Name

SociologyDate

Mr. Hildreth All assignments will have your full name (first and last) and the date at the top.

DO NOT MESS WITH THE MARGINS ON PAPERS!!!!!!Projects, Presentations, Major Assessments (Non Standard Tests): All major non-standard projects will be done SOLELY by the student or group of students working on the assignment.

Rubrics for these assessments will be presented before work begins so there are no disputes on what is expected.

These assessments are designed to show your application of the material learned and how you demonstrate specific concepts and ideas. Students will be expected to complete a differentiated assessment for each unit listed on the website.

Students will be expected to complete online reflections based on selected readings.

A portfolio on classroom assessments will be completed. (Rubric to follow)

Website Protocol:

You will be given a web address and code. You are to go to the web address tonight or in study hall and enter the code.

You must create a username. There are strict protocols for your online name and must follow the following sequence: First Initial Middle Initial Last Name Birthday

Example: MSHildreth1016

Do not use spaces

You must follow the example. Sports/Extra Curricular Class Interference: (Important for 7th & 8th pd)

If you play or are a part of a school sponsored sports team or are in a school related extra curricular activity (musical, play, stream team etc etc etc.) and you will be missing class, all of your assignments MUST be turned in before you leave for your event. This also includes exams. You are to take the exam before you leave for your event. Arrangements MUST be made with me at least 2 days in advance to take an announced test/quiz. (This includes pop quizzes so you must check with me the morning you are leaving for an event to find out if you will be missing any pop quizzes)

You need to check with me daily if you are going to be leaving for sports/extra curricular activities. This is important. While I support and appreciate these activities, its not fair to the other students for you to get extra time for assignments/tests simply because you play a sport or are in another activity.

I am a track coach; therefore, I will miss class in the fall. Refer to the website because the show must go on.Cheating Policy:

If you are caught cheating you will receive a zero for the assignment and your parents will be called.

If you turn it inI read it. That includes homework and everything!

If you plagiarize any research you will receive a ZERO.

Do not talk during exams/ quizzes. It is distracting and I may not know what you are talking about. Talking during this time is considered cheating.

Learning doesnt have to be difficult- Keith EmerlingDiscipline:

Each student will receive two warnings for minor indiscretions and one for major indiscretions. This process refers to rules broken in the student handbook. Others outside of the handbook, will be dealt with in and after class.

Once the warnings have been documented the student will be asked to write out the specific policy he/she has violated.

On this sheet, the scholar will be asked to write out what happened as he/she saw it happen.

This will remain on file.

At this point, the parent will be called.

If the child breaks the policy that he/she has written out a subsequent time, he/she will be given the opportunity to complete an assignment, due on the subsequent day that explains the behavior. (Rubric to follow)

If the behavior occurs again, he/she will be written up and administrative action will occur.

If the child refuses to complete any step of this program, he/she will automatically be written up.

Additional Classroom Expectations/Rules: I lecture very little in class. Therefore, when I am lecturing you are to be listening. You will have plenty of time to talk during small group activities. Disrespect towards the teacher or other students will not be tolerated. There is no personal grooming to be done in class at any time (This means no putting on or touching up make up, brushing/combing hair/lip gloss etc.) One verbal warning will be issued. Follow directions the first time they are given.

Do your own work. This means that ALL (I repeat ALL) work must be done by YOU the student and not by an outside source. Group projects are an exception in which will be discussed from a project-to-project basis. I READ EVERYTHING! Stay seated unless instructed to do otherwise. (i.e. DO NOT get up to throw paper away in the middle of class) Keep your hands, feet, and objects to yourself. Do not touch the maps (some are old and brittle) do not write on the boards, walls, desks, etc.

Do not touch the promethean board with anything but the stylus. do not throw or yell anything out of the windows.

Do not deface school property in this room or hallways. Students must bring a one inch binder for his/her portfolio.

The teacher reserves the right to add to or subtract amendments to these rules as needs arise.

These are the written rules/expectations. Other oral additional rules/expectations will follow as the year progresses.

Miscellaneous:

1. This is an upper level class and will be treated as such. Excuses will not be tolerated or heard.a. Academically- The standard in my classes are very high. When I mentioned earlier about a C being average; I truly believe that. Therefore you must work very hard to achieve an A in my class.

b. Socially- It is my firm belief that a mutual respect between student and teacher must be established before learning can begin. I respect each and every one of you as adults. In turn I expect, and demand that same respect.

2. My classes are meant to be fun. You will be doing a great deal of group work to work out solutions. With this being said, some testable content may not be gone over in class. If it is in the book or gone over in class, it is testable content.3. This is due the day of the syllabus quiz and will be the first page of your portfolio.Student Signature ______________________________________________Parent Signature _______________________________________________Student Signature ______________________________________________
