SoilAcidityBeyondLimeandAluminumToxicity:SoilPhosphorusandSoilHealth–Dr.TabithaBrownoftheLatahSoilandWaterConservationDistrictandWSU

TabithaBrown,incollaborationwiththeUniversityofIdahoandLatahCountygrowers,hasbeenconductingon-farmresearchwithlimingacidicsoils.Shewilldiscussherfindingsonhowlimingaffectssoilaggregatestabilityandextractablesoilphosphorous.ShewillcomparesoilPextractionmethods,traditionallyusedforPalousesoils,withtheHaneyextractionmethod,promotedbyNRCS.TheHaneymethodwasthoughttobeabetterestimationonPsufficiencylevelbecausethetestmimicsrootzonePchemistry.TabithawillalsointroducethecausesofsoilacidityinPalousesoilsandlimemanagementstrategies.

PresentationwillincludesurveydatacollectedinColumbiaCountyandvariousotherlocationsinthePalouse,whywehaveanacidityproblem,andhowwearegoingtocontinuefarminginthefuture.Researchresultswillbepresentedthatincludetheuseoflimeapplicationsandadditionalmicronutrientsbasedonthesoiltestresults.ThesewillincludeevidenceofsoilpHchangesandwheatyieldresponses.
