Some scientist debate that the solar system was formed in a variety of ways; however, they estimate that it was formed almost 4.6 billion years ago.

The center of our solar system is the Sun.

The Sun is not a planet, it is a star and it is the closest star to earth. The actual distance of the sun from the earth is about 149.6 million kilometers.

Although it is a tremendous distance the sun does not appear to us that far away.

Mercury, the closest planet to the Sun, can range from 800

degrees F in the day, and at night, temperatures reach -280 F, but it is not the hottest planet in

the solar system.

Mercury, the hottest planet?

Venus has a lot of volcanic plains with this covering almost 70 percent of the planet.

Venus is considered to be the hottest of all planets in the Solar System due to

greenhouse effect.

Earth is the third planet from the sun and it is fifth largest planet in the Solar System. The Earth is the densest of planets also.

The reason why Mars is called the Red Planet is because of the many particles of iron oxide found on the surface of the planet.

The Olympus Mons in Mars, is the highest

mountain range in the Solar

System.

Jupiter is the biggest of all planets found in the

Solar System of today and the fifth planet found

from the Sun.

Jupiter has a planetary ring

system and has 63 different

moons!

Lo, a satellite of the planet

Jupiter, is the biggest natural

satellite found in the Solar System.

SaturnThis is going to be made up of 9 different but continuous

rings which are the main rings; and there is also 3 other arcs which aren’t continuous in features.

Saturn, the second largest planet is known because it

has a ring system.

Titan, Saturn’s largest moon, is also bigger than Mercury and it has its own atmosphere. It’s the only moon in the

entire Solar System to be able to have this.

Uranus does have its own ring system as well as its

own magnetosphere; along with 27 moons known so far.

Uranus is the coldest planet in the solar system. The planet

orbits the Sun only once for every 84 Earth years which is a length period of time to orbit the Sun.

Neptune has almost 17 times more mass than that found on Earth and will be smaller than Uranus which is very close to it.

Neptune is the further planet away from the Sun.

Makemake Ceres Pluto

There are eight planets in the solar system. Pluto is a Dwarf Planet. There is a huge estimate of maybe 200 different dwarf planets out

there in the Solar System that hasn’t been discovered yet.
