• Women and children are known to be the main water carriers in low-income countries, often spending more than one hour per water collection trip and making multiple trips per day.
• The average distance to fresh water in a developing country is 3.7 miles!

prematurity, and low birth weight in newborns. • Slow growth and mental development from losing a lot of
iron and protein.
Schistosomiasis
• Affects 200 million people worldwide and its highest prevalence is in school-aged children. Infection occurs when skin comes in contact with contaminated water, allowing the worms to enter the skin.
• Infection can cause anemia, malnutrition, and learning difficulties.
But what can we do to prevent this?
It’s simple! Giving one single person a pair of shoes and proper sanitation will change their life forever.
