Something BIG has come to Scotland...

and it needs

YOU!

Let’s think about your

life…

What do you NEED?Why??

(Hint:You don’t really need computer games!)

“Whatever you do to the least of my brothers,

You do to me.”

Let’s start a MINI VINNIES!

MiniVinnies is part of the

Society of Saint Vincent de Paul, or

SSVP for short.

St Vincent de Paul lived about 500 years ago and dedicated his whole life to serving the poor and needy.

Frederic Ozanam started the SSVP in 1833. He admired St Vincent de Paul, so he named it after him.It started with 5 people…

…and now there are 750,000(that’s the same as the number of people in

Glasgow!)

There is so much need in our world today and we can follow in the very

footsteps of Christ

by opening our hearts and hands to the poorest people in our communities and in

our world.

Today the SSVP continue to carry out the work of this great Saint by doing whatever they can for people in need.

Mini Vinnies do the same.

To be a Mini Vinnie, you need to be aged between P4 and P7.

“When two or three get together in my

name, I am there with you.”

How to set up Mini Vinnies in your school

What you need........

YOU!(As well as a member of staff to support you)

•Choose a suitable time, such as lunchtime or straight after school.

•You only need about half an hour about once a week to meet.

•Brainstorm ideas about how you can help in your school or

community.•Decide on one project at a time

to work on.

It’s great if you have a local SSVP group that you can get in

touch with and make a link.

You can then work on projects together.

Here’s a little example of a Mini Vinnies project...

Our Lady’s Mini Vinnies decided they wanted to FEED THE

HUNGRY......

....by collecting food to make

FOOD PARCELS.

• Spoke in assembly about what they were doing to raise awareness to others.

• Made posters to advertise in the school and in the local Parish

What they did...

• Brought in big cardboard boxes and made signs for them so that people had somewhere to put their donations

• Spent an afternoon sorting food and making it into food parcels

• Local SSVP (who they had previously made links with) collected the food parcels for distribution
